Good sports car < 10k

mx-5 is a junior sportscar, it handles predictable rather than well.

i find say mk2 mx-5 vs mk3 MR2 a difficult comparsion.

which one would i trust my girlfriend to drive in the wet..... the MX-5 as it's predictable

which one would i chose for an adrenaline rush, well the MR2 because it's the faster cornering car but harder to control.

the MX-5 flatters your ability to drive.

the MR2 tests your ability to drive.

for this reason the S2000 would be my choice if i could have a 2 seater. the handling does not suck, infact almost every review praises it's rawness, it's like the MR2, it tests your ability.

if you want back seats you have a much wider selection. but 330d is a 300bhp 40mpg beast when remapped. and being a bmw is handles well.

i would stray away from monaro's with higher tax/insurance/running costs/ parts cost etc etc.

TVR's on the public road is a big NO NO.

if your happy to run with something older and can get a decent one an RS2 would prove a decent option. though i would stay away from newer fast audi's as they have kinda lost there heritage now.

The oddball option for YOU, could be a Cayenne S, the 4.4 v8 delivers 340bhp and 0-60 quicker than the S2000, and i was SERIOUSLY surprised how agile and compotent the vehicle handled, and that was comparing it to a newer X5. the Cayenne felt and drove like an involing sportscar but with better visibility. 10k would probs get a 80,000+ miler but with all the toys. tv's, sat nav, leather etc etc.

hehehe, for a moment I thought you mean the ZT ;)

Which in the old v8 lump is alot of car for the cash :)

That libra is possibly in the same boat as the caterhams etc... a bit too close to sports, but a lot of fun for the cash ;)

For £10k you could get both if you watch and wait!! All I can say is they may be like chalk and cheese but they both put a smile on my face. Oh there is a very good ZTV8 with Roush S/C for sale right now around £12k

Sorry now sold!

According to JC, you just got to decide on the relative ratios of discarded nose pickings, bodily fluid deposits and misplaced cocaine in the cabin. Once you've decided on that, selection is easy. :giggle:

What about an RX8 rather than an MX5?

Something Like this maybe?

2008, Less than 9 grand, 4 seats, 4 doors, 230+ BHP - What more could you want?!

Porsche Boxter S?

Audi S4/S3 (Not really GT but fast and well built)

BMW 330ci instead of M3?

A non-biased +1! Why bother supercharging the MX-5 to get RX-8 power, when you can get the RX-8?

That said, while it is a great car, I just don't have feelings for it - I just can't form an attachment to it - hence why it's for sale. emoticon-0106-crying.gif

What! No 7 type car interests you? Ok it's gotta parked on the road so the Nissan 250Z is a reliable all rounder. Failing that a S2000 gives you open top motoring. MX5's are good for reliability but are cramped and a little breathless when pushed, sorry Gary.

More than low 20s mpg and sub £400 tax?

But good call anyway

Mk3 MR2 with a good turbo kit fitted its well within that budget. There is one up for sale over on MR2ROC that should fit the bill at the moment. With the right setup you get mid engine agility, reasonable comfort, sub 5 seconds to 60 decent fuel economy. Properly fun to drive, does not blow smoke up your arse like an mx5 but hugely rewarding when you have it sussed out.
