He's broken it again

Featured Replies

just had a call from my brother (bengie) to tell me he's hit and cracked the sump on a speed bump... :shakehead

so any idea how much this is gonna cost to sort?

I hope he got the Samco TIP fitted ok,hope he hasn't damaged the engine before he noticed.

Circa

haven't fitted the TIP yet, fitted tother one though. bit bloody tight.

didn't even hit it that hard, are these things made of play-do'h?

oh well  time for a week of roughing it in the nova :D

is it something that can be done by me and my mates or am i going to HAVE to pay someone?

Easy sorted by you and the boys.....

By the way, can I respectfully suggest you alter your name from Bengie to Bendit?

They are made of aluminium which is pretty sort, usually knocks where the bung is and puts a crack in it.

Easy enuff to do, just need a long 5mm allen key socket to get into the sump bolts that are tucked away inside the bell housing of the gearbox (there are two small access holes in the bottom of the bell housing/sump to get to them).

New sump just requires a specific white silicone sealer, np gasket.

cool, mate said it is around the plug that its leaking from. drove about 1 mile after knocking it but these was a massive pool of oil where i parked by my mates house so hopefully it should be alright

spoke to a local engineering company this morning and they can fix it no probs the said, in fact they have done a few before

when i take it in probably tomorrow i am going to ask about the possibility of making like a skid pan for the bottom. i asked at tskoda about these and he told me they are hundreds to buy from them. whilst i am under the car i will look at what is involved and take measurements and ask the nice enineering company if its possible, if it is is anyone else interested? groupbuy?

Erm, nope. I've had 2 (one on the RS and one on the SDI) total cost is about the same as a new sump inc fiting (parts about

Wouldn't Skoda's purpose-designed skid plate be better?

Parts prices involved are:

Engine/gearbox assembly skid plate -

cheers mate, just going on what my skoda parts monkey said, he didn't actually pull up 'real' figures he worked from mamory. of the PM i think

cheers denis, nice to see the 'real' price, as said above though bloke was working from memory

got the sump off and doesn't look as bad as i thought it would be. got to see what the engineers say tomorrow about welding it, hopefully all will go well.

whilst waiting for the last of the oil to drain i started to remove the TIP and got all of the rubber out but the metal section is still attached to the trubo, any ideas on how to remove this? any tips greatly appreciated

5mm allen key to undo the bolt, then carefully lever it off with a screwdriver (yeah I know there are probably better tools, but I used a slat bladed screwdriver)

cheers jon  next question is unless you are Mr.Tickle(not john that is) how the hell do you get at it?

ohwell back on topic, after dropping my sump off at the engineers at 8 this morning i have just recieved the call to say its ready :D

will pick it up either tonight or tomorrow so jabba is definitly still on for next week

btw
