Upgrading Skoda Superb Front Brake

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am thinking of upgrading my Skoda Superb front brake kit.

Have found a used A4B7 brake kit but the carrier does not fit.

Anyone guru here can advise whether it is wise to source for a carrier that suit our car?

Alternatively, what other BBK can fit our Superb MK1?

Thank-you for your reply.

also looking for new front brakes but...

will stay 312mm set up as standard but more thinking of the grooved or drilled with better pads

so

ANY ONE WITH GOOD FRONT BRAKES , LET US KNOW pls.

The front brakes off the 2.5TDi are bigger, I think, use those?

Big improvement realised when switching to EBC non drilled plus EBC pads, 312mm dia, which is standard on my 2.5.

Even better with Greenstuff from EBC or other reputable makers. You don't need drilled groover variety, waste of time, reduces friction area, so generally worse, just "perceived" better as costs twice as much. Also prone to cracks. Only really worth having drilled discs to reduce chance of warpage when used on track. But how many superbs are used on track days??????

Stick with the basics man. Good brand discs and maybe greenstuff pads and you'll be sorted.

If brakes are really bad, replace brake fluid and bleed. ONly a bit of water in the brake fluid (it's hygroscopic so absorbs water readily from air) will drastically impede brake performance, so a change every 2 years is a must to keep top performance.

thanks for that EBC is the staff im looking in to

In my experience, EBC Greenstuf pads crack after a couple years / 10k miles or so, I still have them on Octy, and would not use them again. Braking is good, though. EBC standard discs are good, but too pricey for me, a year ago Febis could have been had at half the price.

For the Superb, what works best for me are Febi discs (or any other brand you like, just make sure good quality) plus EBC yellow pads (nowadays come in 2 guises, racing and non-racing, but I guess both will do the job).

I have 312mm discs from factory (V6TDI).

Remember to change brake fluid, best to update to Castrol React Performance DOT4, or Motul RBF600. Do not use thinner 5.1 fluids or clutch cylinder will start squeaking. Read here for more details. On autobahn, I was able to boil <1yr old factory fluid after repeated braking.

As stated in earlier posts, avoid drilled/slotted/non-steel rotors as they do increase pad wear, some actually increase braking distance, and can crack.
