EVO's new fleet car

Featured Replies

Evo magazine this month has just got a vRS estate in red with black roof, black wheels. The black roof is not an option on the estate but they say its a perk of being in the media. They had it on track, he said that he couldnt get used to the dsg but he got within 3 seconds of the polo gti they also have!

I'm sure the write up will be on the Evo website soon but I can't find it at the moment.

In the same mag this month they also had a Bedford Trackday.

BMW 1M Coupe did 1:29.722

Seat Leon Cupra R did 1:30.570

Nissan 370Z did 1:32.757

VW Polo GTI did 1:33.573

Skids Fabia vRS did 1:36.092

Infiniti M37S did 1:36.240

Jaguar XJ Supersport did 1:38.117

Subaru Legacy did 1:38.380

Renault Wind did 1:39.997

VW California did 1:55.069

I haven't read EVO for years now, is it still as good as ever.

It's still by far the best read. will be interesting how they rate it compared to their Polo

Still good, most of the reviews are for people with a lot of money lol. But I like the write ups on tuned cars and the testing they do, eg the Ibiza cupra revo and mountune focus 888 vxr Astra etc.

I hope they do a few bits to the vRS!

Impressed by the VAG-times really, what kind off track is Bedford?

I mean, it's only not even 1 second between the 370z and the Polo GTI :o!

The same between the 1M coupe and the Cupra R :o!

The fabia is much much softer on standard suspension, rolls alot more and has an inferior damping setup. irrelevant of badge, it was going to get its pants pulled down.

Uprate the suspension to an uprated kit, like for like, id bet the Polo would still edge it, as its a stiffer chassis with less weight

I was lucky enough to have done work experience at evo twice this year and was up there last week. Got to go out in the vRS as I told them I was thinking of buying one. Stephen (evo's Staff Writer who runs the Polo GTI) said he actually prefers the Fabia because it's roll and slightly softer set-up make it more fun to drive. I have to say I was really impressed with the car. Wasn't keen on the idea of not having a manual gearbox, but the DSG really seems to work the engine and makes the acceleration seem 'relentless' and still felt plenty nippy (even after getting a ride in the mind-bendingly rapid F10 M5 the day before)! Think I am definitely going to have to get one now, as for the price nothing really seems to come close to it in terms of performance + fuel economy and running costs.

Just seen it in the mag. Have to say I don't think the black roof works as well in the estate. The rear side windows are a bit too curved so it doesn't quite sit as well as on the hatch.

Also, could the fact of it being an estate affect the lap time slightly? I suppose the hatch would be (even by a few thousands of a sec) quicker...

Why?

The Estate is a bit lighter and longer = more aerodynamic

I stopped my subscription when they got a new editor a year or so back.

Found the whole editorial stance had gotten very pretentious! From the OPs quote about "perks of being in the media" it seems nothing's changed!

Not a fan of Evo anymore either. COTY is almost always a 911 of some sort and read an article the other day where some car priced at £100k was considered "good value" :wonder:

just read this magazine, i dont know why skoda dont do the estate with a coloured roof looks awsome, really matches the car with the black alloys and headlights etc
