Guess what...another misfiring VRS

Featured Replies

Well, after booting it today, the infamous misfiring occured accompanied with a flashing engine management light.

ECU update has already been done before this started happening :(

Will have to ring the service department on Monday to get it booked in.

*sigh* :(

When it was manufactured? How many KM/Miles do you have?

I had really bad misfires on my 2011 Octy vRS. After 6/7 visits to dealers, diagnostic reports etc. They replaced fuel pump, MAF sensor all to no avail.

Got referred to Skoda technical in the end. They said change spark plugs......Problem solved!

Apparantly they have had loads of issues with spark plugs.

Might be worth mentioning.... very easy to check and very little hassle.

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

2010, 15000 miles.

And yes it's probably the spark plugs or coil pack, or maybe even piston rings as some others have mentioned.

Seems strange how it's only just happened now though, after having it for a year.

They just seem to pack in early. Mine went after 6 months and 7k.

Aye.

Will let you know how I get on anyway.

Ill be changing the spark plugs on mine every 5-7k, especially as im asking more of mine than others. Its only £30 for the set.

Not sure if it is the sparkys yet Sy, but that's probably a wise move considering what you're running.

Will let you know what the techies come back with.

Likely to be them tbh, its a known fault that they overheat and fail on this engine

Took it out again and couldn't replicate.

Wonder if it's worth me bothering taking it in...

Funny that, I'd had my vRS for 15,000 miles until the misfiring started on mine!

The spark plugs were upgraded and had no problems since, although I had a software update too.

Definitely worth taking it in ,as soon as you floor it in sports mode, only a matter of time before the EML illuminates.

Hope you get it sorted. :)

Although this has not happened to me, if there seems to be a trend towards changing spark plugs as a precaution - what is the recommended spark plugs people use. Plus should you buy 'something better' than the stardard spark plug ?

Reason I ask is on my RX8 they always said once the OEM spark plugs were shot get some 'upgraded' ones (which name escapes me) but presume upgraded ones for the vRS would be wise ? Or does it make no difference on this car.

Thanks for your advices.

Mine did this to me last week, misfiring one week then the night before I was taking it to the dealer it stopped and has been perfect since.

Its worth taking in even if it's just so they can plug it in and see what cylinder it is and perhaps swap the plugs around. So if it happens again it's easier to narrow down the fault.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Booked in for next Friday.

Will let you know how it goes.

As said above mate, even if you can't replicate it they should still be able to see it logged a misfire and try to figure out why it did it  well worth letting them have a look

Hurrah! Mine is back from the dealers today and it seems much happier so far.

It's suffered from a similar misfire as discussed here. This visit it has had new spark plugs as they found a faulty one and the software update discussed earlier.

I've taking it out and driven it hard and not a single complaint. Just hope this is the end of it.

Hope it all gets sorted for you. And thanks to everyone who's contributed to the threads related to this as it's helped me out greatly when at the dealers.

alot of these situation have come down to faulty plugs (infact most I can remember reading) a bad batch maybe? any uprated plugs available? I know they are quite long lasting... is it 40k? mine have been untouched since new (22,500 miles) and all is well so far.. (I have had the software update..)

sy? did you put uprated plugs in?
