VAT on Metallic Paint and delivery.

Featured Replies

Would I have to pay the VAT on the metallic paint and delivery charge of a new Octy ?

Also, if I ordered the 1.6 TDI are there any other extra costs other than delivery @ £416.67 and First registration fee @ £55 ( or is that not payable on this model ?).

Thanks.

Look at the RRP. This is the price you pay, before bartering.

But the dealer is adding the VAT onto the Metallic paint and the delivery charge (so only the car is VAT free).

Is that correct ?

Thanks.

Many thanks. That was the answer I was looking for :)

Get the full on the road quote and post it here with the spec and where you are. Then let us all try and find the cheapest. That's what I did and it saves the "you could have paid xxx" when you show us your new car.

I have already done the bartering bit and am happy with the result but the dealer has charged me VAT on the metallic paint and the delivery cost so I just needed to know if I am due to have it refunded.

Thanks.

They prolly added it on to cover the loss on the bartering. DTD charge for delivery but you might get a dealer do it for free with 1 years Tax. But! DTD might still be cheaper, just look at the final amount you pay.

Is the delivery cost from the port (in Germany) to the local dealership ?

They have charged me £416.67 for this.

Strangly they have also charged the VAT at 17.5% by the looks of it.

I need to know if I should argue the VAT on the delivery cost or not really. I have found on the Skoda web site that "factory extras" which I take to also mean Metallic Paint should not have VAT added to it, so I shall be arguing that with them.

The car (Octavia 1.6 TDI Elegance) is arriving in 2 weeks (I didnt want to wait till March !) :)

I actually went in to order a Yeti but didnt like the thought of waiting 6+ months for the colour/model of my choice.

Thanks.

The offer used to be a disount on the base cost of the car and any factory options. No discount on dealer fit options or delivery (this is the cost from the factory to the dealer). I assume it is the same, so I would not expect a discount on the delivery charge but would expect a discount on the metallic paint.

Bear in mind that the VAT offer is equivalent to a discount of 16.6% off the car and options, so this should be the minimum to expect, anything over this is a bonus.

£13549 for the petrol without metalic from dtd gives you can idea.

So the book price (ignoring any haggling or dealer/broker deals for now) what I would be paying is ...

1x Octavia 1.6 TDI Elegance @ £14,954.17 (no VAT)

1x Metalic Paint @ £366.67 (no VAT)

1x Delivery Charge @ £416.67 (VAT to be added)

1x First Registration @ £55.00 (no VAT)

Have I got that right and included everything ?

Thanks.

From Skoda website

"*Reduction equivalent to 20% VAT applied to original base price including factory fitted optional extras available on Fabia, Roomster, Octavia and Superb models"

P.S Bear in mind the "offer" has been running for quite a few years now!

You still pay 20% VAT, just they discount the car by 20%.

I knew calling things "VAT free" would confuse people... :wonder:

It's not confusing me. I just want to be clear about what I should be paying as far as the list price is concerned.

Ok, to get this clear the easiest way to work out what you should be paying for a car included in the VAT free deal is as follows;

Look at the brochure here.

Look at the price list for your model.

Take the figure in the 'Recommended OTR' column then subtract the figure in the 'VAT' column.

It's that simple. You do not get a discount on the 'on the road' charges such as delivery, tax, first registration fee etc which are what makes up the difference between the 'RRP' and 'OTR' prices.

If you wish to add optional extras just find the extra in the list and the price you should pay is the price in the 'basic' column.

So, as an example, a 1.6 TDI Elegance hatch should cost you;

£18,510.00 (OTR) - £2990.83 (VAT) + £366.67 (paint) = £15,885.84

If your dealer is charging you more than this he's got his sums wrong :p

If that is what he's charging you then you don't need to worry about what he calls it, he's got the price correct.

As Babs said, the 'No VAT' thing can be confusing if you take it literally as you actually do still pay VAT and it will be shown on your invoice, it's just a reduction equivalent to not paying any VAT.

Skoda aren't really helping themselves though, when I ordered mine this time last year there was a special price list which showed the 'no VAT' price for each model.

Why they don't still have that is anyones guess.

When I bought my Roomster the VAT free bits were the base price of the car and the factory fit options. OTR costs were fixed at £675 this being made up of delivery, first registration fee and road tax costs. Of course there is no VAT on the road tax part of this as that would just be tax on a tax (probably shouldn't even suggest this as HM Customs and Excise might get ideas :dull: ) and the first registration fee is also has no VAT component. So you do pay VAT on the delivery part of the OTR costs but that is all.
