Tyres ( Boring)

Hi

2010 VRS 7500 mile only, conti sport 2 need replacing, normal driving, does this sound right?

Yes, I had Conti 2 on, they are a pretty good handling but sh1te on wear, I think I only got 9000 miles.

I'll never buy Conti again, put Falken on in summer, no change in handling, much cheaper and lasted a lot longer.

Don't get kuhmos either they wear out really quick as well, grip well but wear out too quickly.

Conti 2's on mine, tread is down to 5mm on the front and 6mm on the back. 10000 miles of mixed driving and I don't hang about.

Only one complaint with the tyres......THE NOISE!!!!

I needed to replace my front conti 2s at about 13500 miles, put sessanta's on, moved old conti's from back to the front... I have just replaced them at 22k with sessanta's as I got my alloys coated and wanted to change before weather got worse.... strange, as they still had about 3mm tread on with even wear?

Mine came with conti 2's when new. Replaced them at 28k miles with michelins which took me to 55k. They are in the shed as winter boots on now. The michelins have life in them yet.

Not a VRS though, only 140bhp here

I swapped from Conti SC2's to Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 on my TFSI VRS. Tyre noise halved in my opinion. The fronts have done 21k and have 2.5mm of tread left. The rears have done 18k and have 4.5mm of tread left. A mix of normal driving with the occasional bit of excitement. I can't recommend the Goodyears enough - wet and dry grip are better than the SC2's in my opinion.

As you can see from my sig, vRS 170CR.

Factory fitted with Conti SC 2 - Fronts lasted 28k (changed when just about 2.5mm left - don't like to leave it too late) and the rears still had about 3.5mm on when I changed over to the winters at 36.5k 2 weeks ago.

I would say that I have an occasional heavy right foot, but IMHO I think they've lasted pretty well.

Mix of driving but not that much city driving (25% max). Usually the boot is full of work stuff.......

Can also recommend Falken's 452's. Have a new set of Toyo proxies on my furby VRS so will see how these go.

Had both Falken and toyo on the fabia, falken's lasted slightly longer than the toyo's did. The conti's on mine are still fine after 15k. I guess its all down to how and where you drive. (mine is a mix of driving + 3 track days)

I personally would be not be happy at going through a front set of tyres after 7500 miles.

My new vRS came with Conti SC2's in March last year.

I'm currently just shy of 12k miles and they are still going strong.

As for noise - what noise?

Been so impressed with how quiet they are I'll be sticking to the Conti brand when they do eventually require changing.

My original conti's lasted 21k,was a bit noisey but by quietened down alot by 21k,i fitted falken 452's & they are a bit noisey but fronts are wearing well, only problem is i have found recently is the o/s/r is wearing on the inner edge, the n/s/r is fine.....time for a alignment check i think!

Also had Conti's OEM got about 17k on the fronts. Grip was fine but LOUD.

Have Maxxis MAZ1 all round now. Cheap (£86) and easily as good as the Conti and Avons I've had previously. Also appear to be pretty good in the winter. I've gotten up some hills I really shouldn't have.

I'd probably have Falkens on but the Maxxis are a little cheaper and the small indy that sells them is very convenient for me.

Hardly adding much here, my Conti SC2s still going strong after 20,000 miles with 6/7mm left. I like to make progress but I don't stress my tyres. 7.500 miles sounds completely wrong to me for new tyres unless they were being driven very hard.

My word they are noisy though, especially at the back. Looking forward to changing them in a way but will probably get a further summer out of them yet . . .

Hi

2010 VRS 7500 mile only, conti sport 2 need replacing, normal driving, does this sound right?

I got 16K out of mine. Are they evenly worn? ie is it an alignment problem?

7500 miles sounds very odd!

Dont buy Hankook V12 Evo they are awful for wear.

I wasn't much better - 9500. Relpaced with Goodyear f1 asymmetric 2

In April this year my fronts were changed when the wheel alignment was adjusted. I put on Michelin PS3s, hoping for better life from them than I had from the OE Dunlops on an apparently dodgy alignment setting. On Monday last week had to replace the PS3s after just 7000 miles. Worringly the wear is not at all even. The outer edge and centre of the tyres are down towards the bars and ceratinly at the stage I would defo. change them, but the most worrying thing was that the inside third or so is very worn - to the point that the tyres had to come off that afternoon. Not impressed at all but I don't know wheher to be unimpressed with the PS3s, the skoda dealer that did the alignment check/adjust or with the vRS itself! If there's a silver lining to the dark cloud it's that I had new tyres on the front just in time for the gales, rain and now snow that we've got up here.

Sarge.

had the conti SC3's on the vRS from new, found them a little noisy but not too bad. Switched to Continental winters TS830P and they are much quieter (same 225/40/18's)

I was lead to believe winter tyres were usually a little bit noisier

Sounds like an alignment issue. I had a bump in my pre Skoda days and the car was never properly aligned after that until the second attempt at main dealer full laser alignment (and multiple national chain tyre fitters' tracking attempts). Over about three years I got through stacks of tyres all rendered illegal due to uneven wear.

My Contis on the front lasted to 10'700 miles and they were down to markers all over, decent wear all over, but found them absolutely pants in the snow, mind it is hilly here in wales.....
