[Moved from 'Introduce yourself' thread]

Hello,

Only getting round to posting some pictures of the car now!

Bought the car about the middle of July. Got a great deal (I think?) off a private seller.

The car was adverised on gumtree about 20 miles from my town so i was immediately interested!

It was advertised at £3800, 45k with no mods except the debadging and the black front grille.

I then arranged to meet up with the seller and the car had;

-Coilovers

-Tinted front and back windows.

-60k miles!

I was a bit annoyed at this because the front windows were clearly illegal and they'd have to be removed and also I wanted one that wasn't already lowered so I could do it myself properly and get it aligned etc. Also at 60k it meant getting the cam/timing belt changed :|

So I test drove the car and it was amazing, lightning quick compared to my mum's 1.1 ~70bhp mitsubishi colt I'd been driving for the past two years! The front tyres rubbed on full lock and I was a bit put off as it meant worn tyres and if I bought it then it would certainly have to be raised. PITA!

It got down to doing the deal for the car and the guy wanted £4200 for it!! He said it was because of the coilovers and tints that he wanted the extra money. I was obviously very annoyed at this because he advertised it at £3800 with less miles and without the mods that tbh I didn't really want. Eventually I go him down to £3950 with a full tank of diesel :)

Needless to say I was happy enough! Insurance was a bit of a hassle with me only being 19 and having no NCD because i was a named driver for 2 years - managed to get it down to £1600 fully comp with admiral multicar..

Few things I've done to it since buying,

-Two new front tyres - 195/45/R16 - £44 each

-Raised two front tyres about 10mm - no more rubbing!

-Had to get a jack and tow eye from a scrapyard as none came with the car

-TRS tow strap machined onto the tow eye

-De-tinted driver and passenger windows

-Sprayed some engine components to match car, love it or hate it look but I like it!

TO DO:

-Strut braces front and rear

-Timing belt change

-Full service - DONE!

-Short shifter mod

-Pressed number plates - DONE!

-Spray number plate surround back to gleaming black!

-Polish up headlights - looking a bit faded - DONE!

Not sure if I've left anything out but I'll maybe start a new thread soon in the main Fabia I section to keep up to date with my mods. (If that's okay).

  • Well the vacuum problem has disappeared, was down in Dublin watching the rugby on Sunday and the 200mile round-trip didn't do any damage - I guess me changing the vacuum lines caused a temporary hiccu

  • Sprayed the number plate surround, fogs, and grilles again to get them all the same black colour. Looks great, though bumper has a ****load of stone chips that need sorted.

What's next?

Dunno tbh, probably a few maintenance things in the new year.

-Just hit 65k so timing belt needs done asap, and i'm going to take all the intake piping off and clean intercooler and associated pipework.

-Oil catch can.

-Contemplating an Allard EGR delete but don't like the idea of having the EML on constantly.

-Some ICE upgrades, got 2 amps, 2 6x9s and a sub sitting ready to go in.

-Strut brace and RARB

-Brake calliper refurb. (the previous owner didn't use proper calliper paint and brake dust has stuck to the semi-melted paint on the callipers. lovely)

-Spray wheels anthracite-y colour.

Need to get it dyno'd too. Not too sure of the output!

You any upgrades planned wilsy? We'll all have to get an NI meet soon enough as i don't know any of the members on here personally.

Deleted, double post

Hopefully getting that fmic in the group buy in the new year, have my new 312 and 256 calipers and carriers sitting at home here waiting to go on :) gonna give them a good refurb too then get those dimpled and grooved discs with mintex pads. Then hopefully get my wheels refurbed as they are the only thing that lets the car down :( as for that, that's pretty much it lol still considerIng a splitter lol

Yeh i only know of a few members lol

Sweet, I don't drive that hard so i'm not gonna bother with brakes etc. Yep a good wheel refurb is in order for me too. What's your TT remap like? Are you getting 190bhp with the original turbo etc?

I don't drive hard either I just think the brakes look awesome lol :) as for the tt map I love it, had no issues do can't complain. Nice and smooth doesn't smoke, smokes at wee bit up top but nothing excessive and nothing you wouldn't expect. Thats what the dyno said but I know it's not running anything like that probs 170-180 max. Had arguments with everyone in here about that lol they are all reall good guys and provide a great service. Dave is an excellent mapper just wish he would sort out his figures loo

Liking this mate, looks a lot like mine, minus the yellow fogs and black grill!

Did you use lamin-x for the fogs??

Sounds about the same as mine then.

Got some cheapo fog tint off ebay, basically lamin-x but without the hefty price tag. To apply it i left the fog lights on for 10mins to heat the glass up, then used a hair dryer to heat the tint up while applying it. Worked well and i love the look!

Gave the ol' Fab a mega clean today and took it for a spin along a private road for a mess about.

Manage to get a good few shots and put some rubber to the ground ;)

Oh, got some Bosch Aero wipers ordered so i'll get them fitted and get a few pictures up too in a few days.

Where did you get the cup holders? Got a part number for them?

I'm not sure of the part number - I got mine off ebay from a breaker selling a few things online. Its the same cup holder in the Seat Arosa and VW Lupo if that helps. I'm sure someone here would be able to help with the part number.

Oh and expect to pay £20 upwards for one of those, they're quite sought-after!

Fitted an oil catch can today, hopefully gonna provide a nice clean intake for my Fab!

I'll not post pictures of the whole process, as most here know how they work and how to mount etc.

I mounted mine to the air filter housing, wasn't too sure it would be strong enough but it has proven to be more than up to the job. Doesn't flex or move around at all.

My actual can was an ebay special for £20 with all the fittings. The hoses provided were okay, but i decided to buy better hosing to put up with engine temps, wear and tear etc.

The hose i got is actually coolant/radiator hose but it will definitely do the job for the oil vapour.

-To attach to the rocker cover and into the intake i simply cut the existing piece of plastic into two and tapped 10mm fittings into the existing plastic tubing.

-The hose to and from the catch can is then easily jubilee-clipped on. (I can't stress enough to buy GOOD QUALITY jubilee clips!)

-I attached hosing to the intake part of the internals of the catch can to bring the outlet vapour to the bottom of the can

-Can was then baffled with stainless steel balls (Dish-washing ones).

Pictures below are just a few from the process of fitting it. As you can see i started out with the cra**y blue hosing and bought thicker stuff after.

Also took the time to mount the inline fuse fitted: (I don't have any ICE fitted but the cables are all there to may as well keep them tidy!)

Brilliant job mate :) very tidy :) much better than my own lol what shape is your battery? Lol it's completely different?

Thanks! My original job was awful tbh, the black radiator hoses are excellent!

Mine just doesn't have a cover on it, so all the various connections are exposed just?

Mine is 56plate so doesnt have the cover but it's still different lol. I have the same catch can only silver, how did you mount It onto the airbox? I mean what way is the mounting on the back of the catch can lol I have diff hoses too but you're still

Looks better lol

Sorry this isn't the best of pictures:

Just an "L" shaped bracket. Gonna get a 1mm piece of aluminium and mount it to the crash bar soon probably.

img2012012600071.jpg

How come you have wiring but no additional amp/speaker setup?

I'd remove it if not being used, or at least cut the excess wire away!

Mines in the crash bar think yours lOoks better
