Freshly Refurbed Wheels, Polished up & Sealed - What do you think?

Featured Replies

These 18" RS4 Wheels have been stored in my Dad's shed for 2 years... He bought them brand new when he took delivery of his 2006 Mk2 Octavia VRS - The reason was the car had 17's as standard so I convinced him to buy these rather then go for the standard Octavia 18's.

They looked really good on his car as the offset is perfect meaning they actually sit quite far out in the arches so no need for spacers.

Anyway, they were all a bit bashed about and looking a bit sorry for themselves so I took them off to my fantastic local bodyshop to do a refurb on them. They have all been repaired and powdercoated so should be a nice tough finish but I think they've done a fantastic job - exactly as I wanted them!

I picked them up last night so gave them a bit of TLC to get them all sealed and protected up for the Winter:

Process was:

Dust off

Hand polished with Klasse All-in-one polish / sealant

Buffed off after 10 mins

Zaino Z2 Sealant applied and left for 15 mins to cure before buffing off.

Finally FinishKare FK1000p applied and left for 10 mins before buffing off.

Probably a little bit OTT but hoping they will repel as much dirt as possible while on the car through the winter but they do look good (IMO) - Just looking forward to getting them on my car (Race Blue VRS Estate) but it will need badly lowering!!

Very nice, but they aren't much use on your lounge floor. Get them fitted lad !! ;-)

Haha yeah but I wanted to get them home and all sealed up from the comfort of my lounge before getting tyres on :-)

Ok ok ok I know haha, it will be done as well as possible but it desperately needs it put it that way! I'm probably just going to go 25-30mm using the Eibach Pro kit....

Love them. Pics when they're on please

Very nice :p B) looking forward to seeing them on the car

Lovely. Would look good on my new motor when it arrives ;)

I considered buying this vRS which had the same 18" RS4 B7 rims but it got scratched off the list because it had no towbar. :(

On these rims I think the neutral center caps looks better than Skoda ones (but your gun metal colour is superior on anything but vRS blue cars).

Really love them! I want some now! lol!

Look great, how much was the refurb?

Thanks for the replies!

Good to see that silver set on a Blue Estate too, thanks for that! It certainly gives me an idea of how they look, and in the colour mine are I think they'll look even better :-)

The cost is £50 per wheel with powdercoating, so not a bad price really!

Hoping to get them put on over the weekend so will post up pics then!

Those look like 19" to me..?

+1, I didn't know the Scout was available in Race Blue either??? :p

Surprised this was turned down just because it didn't have a towbar, these can be added for minimal cost!

those look the business well done can't wait to see them on the motor!

Superb...and clearly a labour of love..I could see wheel OCD starting here.

I might buy some old wheels for my lounge and do the same while Mrs F watches Cack Factor on a Satdy night!

Over here (in Sweden) a towbar is ~£1000 - too little ol' me that's not minimal cost on a £13,000 car but to each his own. :) I wasn't really looking for a vRS and found a mint '06 2.0TDI with considerably lower mileage (just 28,000 miles) at the right price (~£11,000) just after so I went with that one. Besides, since Swedish asphalt is *much* less smooth than the stuff you drive on because it provides better grip in the winter. Driving on that with 19" wheels makes an Octavia *very* noisy up here and I didn't think I was going to convince SWMBO the cool look would be worth it. :)

B) Looking good B) +1 for pictures of them fitted

The FK is used by quite a few detailing fanatic friends who swear by it's high temp resistance properties however, I use PoorBoys wheel sealant and have done for years.

My routine is wash, rinse, clay, wash, rinse, dry, polish, buff then 3 coats of PB half an hour apart and that has been known to last 18 months but I'm an OCD (obsessive car detailer) and usually redo them after about 12 months when I find the beading and ease of washing starting to fade.
