+1

Clears quicker than my old Focus. I have found, though, that it does need to be clean inside to work well. I found that my Elegance had previously been owned by a smoker. When the car had been cleaned for the forecourt, they didn't do the rear window, so it crapped up fairly quickly. Gave it a couple of cleans with some decent glass cleaner and has been fine ever since. :) :)

I have had to have my screen replaced once as most of the elements had gone, not from damage but just had worn out!

The new screen has been in a year and the very bottom element has blown right in the middle where it goes round the wiper arm hole under the black paint already. I doubt if it will be covered by a warranty, but am going to ask anyway.

They don't seem to be the best quality rear screens I have seen.

Check the connections at the window. If the tracks across the screen are broken, scratched through or burnt out, they can be rejoined using a special conductive paint.

The problem with the conductive paint route (Comma Electrocure and similar) is that it doesn't have any resistance so more current is flowing through the element, i.e it gets hotter than it should. There are plently of reports of rear screens breaking in extreme cold after they have been 'fixed' with conductive paint. If the break is VERY small (a few mm) it shouldn't be a problem, but if there is a cm or more of break I wouldn't use it.

On my bottom element I can see just over a cm of track that has burnt out - right in the middle where it goes round the hole for the wiper spindle on the estate. Looks suspiciously like a manufacturing defect to me as it is almost behind the plastic trim so can't be caught by anything in the boot to scratch the screen.

The two top tracks of my rear screen don't work. By the looks of them someone has pulled a rectangular sticker off in the past and pulled the tracks off along with it. There's a few inches of each track missing so I doubt conductive paint would be up to the job in my case.

Cleared the ice off my back window in approx. 3 minutes this morning.

Agreed, nothing wrong with them when they work, but they do seem a little susceptible to tracks blowing on them.

I am seriously considering a tint on the screen just to protect it, not that I ever carry enough in the boot that it could contact the rear screen on the estate. I'd rather fold the seats down than load up above the load cover as I like to be able to see what is behind me!

Mine works fine, front screen defrosts pretty quickly too, i come out 5 mins early , turn on the car , turn on rear heater n turn windscreen demister on. get out light cigarette, open boot, get cloth, go round clean lights and number plates, smoke 2nd cigarette. get in car, use wiper front and rear. Drive off all good. Half the problem seems to is that people have no patience, you should NOT pull away unless ALL your windows are clear so therefore in winter should allow yourself 5 more minutes to allow your vehicle to heat up and ensure all the windows are clear. Basically have more patience!!!!!!!!!
