Superb stuck in Garage

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Slight issue I need help with. I have got a 2 years old Superb 3.6 and my battery is flat. Bit worrying as I only used it 6 days ago to drive a good 60 miles but that is not the main issue.

Obviously central locking doesn't work now but I could unlock the door on the driver side with the key.

So far so good. But unfortunately I have a tiny garage and park the car far to the right (to see where I am going) and get out on the passenger side. Now this means no-one who is older then 2 can actually get in through the driver side to release the handbrake and DSG or open the bonnet.

And as the bonnet handle is on the passenger side and loosening the automatic when the battery is flat needs some trickery, simply using a long stick or so is not good enough to get the car rolling.

So basically I am stuck. No clue how to get either to the battery or be able to get it out of park and push/pull the car out.

One unpleasant option would to smash the passenger window but not if I can help it. And I assume the warranty will fix the battery issue but sudden combustion of window wouldn't work.

Other option would be to find a towing company to pull the car out. But I believe you should never pull a car when the automatic is in Park?

Any ideas?

Wish the key would open the passenger door.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Lars

cant you get a trolley jacks under the front/ back of the car and move it over enough to get in?

Can't you open the boot?

Also is there a lock on the passenger side hidden under a bit of trim - I have no idea about the mkII Superb by the way.

Wheel skates might be a good idea. Not much space to work at the front so I have to see how to lift the car but it might work.

I will ask my local Skoda Garage first if they have some I could borrow.

Regarding lock on the passenger side. Don't think the MK2 has it. At least the manual doesn't say it anywhere and only talks about the drivers door.

Also realised my battery is in the boot. But the boot can only manually opened from the inside, so not much good for me.

Thanks

Lars

Surely the car is still under warranty...can't you get Skoda assistance out to help?

Go and find a small child?

It is but it comes with RAC cover. So I could call them. But I wasn't too sure what they can do either.

I think I speak to the dealer first thing in the morning and see what they say.

Hmmm... What a pickle!

I think you're only options are to either move the car to get into the drivers door or like you say smash a window and pay your insurance excess.

Don't think the RAC would be able to do a right lot either. If only you could get into the boot to jump start the battery! Very frustrating!

Think in future you will either have to park to leave enough space to get in/out or hook up a trickle charger if leaving the car for a few days.

If you have a charger, why not try charging the battery in the car? You said you can unlock the door with the key. Presumably you can open the door a tiny bit, just enough to plug in charger cable into cigarette lighter socket.

Make sure current is less than 10A or you'll blow the fuse.

I still think it's worth a try and it won't cost to call out the RAC. The key (ha ha) seems to be getting the passenger door open. If you can get to the drivers door and open that is there a way you can get a coat hanger or something around the passenger door pull to open it. Can you open a locked door from the inside like this...I know with my current car it depends how many times I clicked the button on locking it.

If it was locked with the remote then all the doors will be dead-locked and so they wont open from the internal door handles.

The only way into the car with the key is the drivers door which is blocked by the garage wall.

Even if you could reach the lock by climbing over the roof (with some sheets to protect the paint of course) you wouldn't be able to open the door or do anything else.

Is there not a lock on the outside of the boot then?

Phil

Here's another thought... anyway to get under the car and attach a battery charger somewhere?

You can put the negative on part of the body and pick up a live somewhere under the bonnet or somewhere then get enough power into the car to operate the locks?

Just a thought...

This is the second post I have read in as many days regarding battery problems. is this a common occurence or just two unlucky people?

This is the second post I have read in as many days regarding battery problems. is this a common occurence or just two unlucky people?

Dont think its a problem with the car its normally that when the weahter turns people do a number of short trips with screen heaters, heated seats, heater fans etc all blasting away and this will show up any weakness in a battery

and Lars69 I see you live in Essex Just leave the garage door open slightly the car will be out of the garage by morning, all you have to do then is find it :D :D

If you can open a door you should be able to open the boot with the key, then plug a charger into the fag lighter there

There is no key hole in the boot hatch of the Superb, only on the drivers side door.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. Just to clarify, the Mark II does not have key locks outside for the passenger door or the boot.

So to finish the story, I got the RAC over last night. Jacking up the car wasn't possible as the garage just doesn't have enough space to reach the right points underneath without damaging the car floor.

So we tried through the gap in the driver door to reach the bonnet lever. Unfortunately no luck. It's on the passenger side (european style, they didn't bother to move it for the uk) so you need a really long stick and even though I could reach it, I couldn't open the bonnet with it. We tried for a good hour or so.

To add insult to injury I managed to break of my mirror while climbing over the car again, don't want to think about that right now.

So we gave up and this morning I finally smashed in my window on the passenger side.

On the positive side, quite strong window, impressive, took me a few attempts. Just wish I wouldn't need to know that.

Then climbing through it I could get into the boot and release the emergency hatch inside to open the boot.

I then got the RAC again over to give me a jump start and at the moment all is fine.

Summary, on Tuesday I bring my car to the garage, battery is on warrenty and new passenger window and mirror on me.

Guess I leave the car on the drive way from now on.

Thanks again,

Lars

Did you tape the window up first to stop the bits of glass dropping into the door etc?

Takes forever to get it all out.
