Future Yeti powertrain - hybrid 4wd?

Featured Replies

Thought this report on a VAG Evoque rival interesting... http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/AllCars/260404/

"...also said the concept’s hybrid four-wheel drive system could make production in the longer term.

The system has an electric motor on each axle, giving the car four-wheel drive capability and a 24-mile electric range. Linked to a 1.4-litre petrol engine and seven-speed DSG gearbox, it is said to return a combined average of 104mpg with CO2 emissions of 65g/km."

If it performs well, that would do nicely,Thankyou.

Well I hope it is better than the Lexus system. Their electric rear wheel motors don't like being dunked in water. What is the point in having a 4x4 that you can't ford?

Launching in the Peugeot and Citroen C5 next year - a 2L Diesel (162 bhp) driving the front wheels - and a 38 bhp electric motor driving the rear - Select it as either elec only, auto, Engine only, or both together for 200 bhp and 4x4. - Love the idea and may well have a go of one next year for the wife - Diesel and Electric Motor, much better than a Prius.

Price for the 508 RXH? £36,000. What a laugh. Also it might get up the mountain when the batteries have power and then leave you stranded when they have no power and you're stuck in 2WD! :giggle:

Well if they use the energy recovery system you would be able to charge the batteries on the decent! :giggle:

Wonder if vauxhall will do a special Snowdon edition?

LOL OK I'll rephrase that then:

Also it might get up the mountain when the batteries have power and then leave you stranded when they have no power (until you get to the bottom of the mountain and your regenerative braking has recharged the battery) and you're stuck in 2WD most all the way down!

Erm, so no. Still a useless 4x4 system in my book. Around town perhaps, but for real 4x4 duties? Nope.

But whenever the engine is running is it providing power for the batteries and motors.

So if you get to a steep hill and demand power then the engine will kick in to provide power to the front wheels and also electrical power for the motors and batteries.

SShhh. Don't spoil the fun. :giggle:

Exactly! :giggle: We can't let people believe hybrid all wheel drive is good when we want to see them in "old skool" Yetis!
