OEM steel shield to OEM plastic

Featured Replies

I want to give up to OEM steel shield and fit the more lighter plastic one.I use only paved roads and is quite useless for me.

What do I need for that swap(accesories)?

The steel shield is heavy, you have to take him down when changing the oil,and after some many times of unmounting/mounting the screw threads on the chassis have worn down,so it rattles.

why not drill an access hole for the sump plug?

If you want to replace it, I guess you will need the main plastic tray and plastic to go either side. Have a look on VAGCAT for details.

Personally I would go with the above and make an access hole and sort out the mountings (I believe they are pressed into the chassis somehow.

Would love to buy a steel one! How much would you want to post it to the UK? I assume it would fit my 2002 1.8t 4x4 estate? My plastic one came loose a dragged on the floor so it's shagged.

They weigh a lot!! In order to mount it you have to get some special mounts pressed into chassis. The downside with the metal ones are is that they hang lover and catch on more things (plus as the reason for this initial post) make oil changes and the like a PITA.

Yes,it's quite heavy,I think about 20 kg or more.

Drilling is not an option, because you have to drill a huge whole ,for the wrench and don't forget the oil is draining sideway and if the whole is not big enough will drop inside the shield.

A valid option is plasma cutting egg-shaped whole.
