clutch pedal too high?

Featured Replies

Hi all! picked up a felicia today as a winter run around, only cost £400 but its a right little minter! my only issue is the clutch pedal sits really high (compared to brake and accelerator pedals) and when you press the clutch to change gear the clutch doesn't bite till the pedal has returned right back to almost where it rests, making driving a bit awkward! i noticed in the front of the service schedule under 'annual inspection' that it says 'position of clutch pedal checked; adjusted if necessary' so can the pedal be adjusted, and if so how? or is my clutch on its last legs? it is a '98 model 1.3 mpi with 66k on the clock. many thanks in advance

Hi BEN10

You are having probs with pedal, well its funny because I bought the FAVORIT I have , just 2 months ago cos my Astra clutch went suddenly with the pedal going higher than the others, I dismantled the gearbox and found the pressure plate fins weak, as the thrust bearing had chewed through the fins with wear over the years.

The clutch plate wasnt really good, the astra was due a Test anyway and I scrapped it.

Was just a thought when I was reading your posting, may help you.

Afterthought the Skoda clutch cable is non adjustable, well my one isnt , as I have just looked.

Felicia clutch cable is definitely adjustable (well, mine is...) where it ends in the motor compartment. IIRC you should tighten the nut if you want it lower.

Could be that the former owner wanted it that way (I prefer having it biting high rather than low) but it can also be a sign of a badly worn clutch. If so, you'll get a slipping clutch after tightening.
