noisey engine

Featured Replies

my skoda octavia tdi the engine seems loud there is a ticking noise but cant tell were it comeing from, any ideas

mmm, maybe the engine :dull:

You are not giving us much to work with! How about an answer to these questions:

- Age

- Mileage

- Last service (date/miles)

- Oil level ok?

- When was the cambelt last changed

- How does the car drive?

- Which TDI? 90/110/130?

- Loud all the time / only at idle / only at speed?

For my initial stab in the dark I am either going for:

(i) Aux belt tensioner (hold your finger on it and see if the ticking stops)

(ii) Low oil

its 51 reg millage is 120k last serviced 2 weeks ago ,drives spot on but , its the 110 bhp only seem to hear it on tick over

120k = second cambelt service if done on distance.

I am still thinking aux belt tensioner, hold your finger on it at idle and see if the noise goes. If the rattle goes, then the problem will either be the aux tensioner or the wheelfree pulley on the alternator.

It's a Diesel there always noisyemoticon-0140-rofl.gifemoticon-0140-rofl.gifemoticon-0140-rofl.gif
