Shark or RS Tuning re-map

Featured Replies

Received quotes from both companies to remove the DPF and re-map my Octy 2 vRS TDI CR.

Shark offered me the DPF Removal and re-map with no STS system (As it is not compatible with my car) for £819 Inc VAT

RS Tuning Offered me the DPF Removal and re-map again with no STS system for £395 Excluding VAT but if i get it done before Christmas there is no VAT to pay.

Both companies offer the same performance gains although RS Tuning said they would not give a definite improvement on MPG but that it would be better than standard and Shark said I would be looking at 10% MPG improvement minimum.

Just wondering why the price is so different as I have never heard a bad word about either of them, a lot of my friends have used RS Tuning and wouldn't go anywhere else but the majority of people on this forum use shark.

Who would you guys (and girls) recommend?

Are you sure the RS Tuning DPF removal is actually removing the DPF (or internals) and not just coding it out? as their price does seem to reflect the latter.

No experience of RS Tuning so cannot say what they are like, but if you know people who are using their remaps and are happy with them that is something.

That price for DPF removal does sound a bit too cheap.

As said, I'd clarify with them that they're going to physically remove it

dont know for sure about what they will do re removing dpf, but have only heard good things about RS tuning too...

their prices do seem competetive, when I was looking at a hybrid turbo conversion on my grande punto (130bhp 1.9 multijet) looking at circa 200-220 bhp, it had not been done before, and several companies offered, but RS tuning were the most competetive on price. I ended up seeling the fiat and buying a mark II vRS though, so never went through with it :)

I had a quote from a company for 500 to fit a gutted dpf I already have and to have my vrs mapped. So the rs price seems great!

The RS quote is very cheap indeed. I have the Shark de-DPF on my Audi TT TDi 170CR and I also booked rolling road runs before and after each step. I was expecting 10-15bhp extra with the de-DPF. I got nothing at all. Maybe 5Nm of torque extra, but that was it. To say I was disappointed would be the understatement of the year. Ben Wardle did warn me beforehand not to expect anything like what some other people were saying, but to get nothing at all was horrible. What I did get was 6-8MPG, so I would say the extra 10% fuel efficiency they are quoting is conservative. So I basically went from frown to beaming smile in one tankful of diesel.

I've been going to Shark for all sorts for almost 3 years (Ben even trained me on VCDS) and he's never failed to exceed my expectations, even when telling me that he couldn't actually do what I wanted. And he's always been reassuringly 'right' in his pricing. The labour rates are roughly half what you'd pay a dealer.

The RS quote is TOO cheap. It's a bit like getting offered a £1000 watch for £10 in Bangkok. It just doesn't feel "right".

It's probably worth bearing in mind that the Shark remap alone is £500 on that car because they have to get the ECU out. So the DPF work is actually about £300.

And they'll make a nice job of it. Have you ever read ANTHING negative about Shark at all? I think all I saw was they're banned from SEAT Cupra Net because Ben corrected someone's spelling or something.

Anyway - whoever you get, please come back and report on what you got!

I wouldn't say RS Tuning price is too cheap...

£395 + vat is about the right price in our area for DPF Hardware and Software Removal complete with Power Remap...

DPF Remap - £200 to £250, DPF hardware removal £100 to £200...

£350 to £450 is about right for most diesels for DPF Gutting, fully coding out and Power Remap...

Anything upto 20% mpg improvement is possible too from what I've found, depending on your driving style that is...
