Re-circulating air coming on when in reverse?

Featured Replies

I've noticed that When I put my Fabia in reverese, the heater/blower goes into re-circlating mode, although the light doesn't come on. It doesn't bother me as I do n't spend much time going backwards, just thought it was a bit strange.

Anyone else's do this or know why?

Cheers.

IIRC it is a safety feature to stop harmful exhaust gases being sucked into the cabin whilst reversing

wow, they think of everything! :)

Surprised it doesn't cut the engine power

It's to stop soot being drawn into the cabin from blackening the white seat trim of the Fabia vRS. Other Fabia models benefit from this feature too.

I tried this today after reading a similar thread earlier on, the recirculation light does not come on like you say, but how do you know that it's been switched to recirculation by selecting reverse gear? All I can think of, is to select reverse gear and wait for 15 minutes for the windows to steam up :)

Give it a try! But seriously, can't you hear a change in fan noise when in recirculation mode?

I'll be listening out for that tomorrow. What a clever car! This is my first Skoda, and I really thought I was taking a huge (almost insane) gamble when I bought it new 5 months ago, how completely wrong I was. :D

Might only be on the later models, there has been a fair bit of electronic tweaking since the first model was introduced ;)

Another one of those features is the automatic 'single wipe' a little while after the normal spray wipes finish.

He will have it - even my lowly 2001 model has this ;)

Chris

The ibiza does it too, but the recirc light comes on - guess it's a setting the dealer could enable/disable??

Just checked and it did NOT come on on mine? '05 reg model, perhaps they've turned it off or I didnt wait long enough?

Doesn't seem to work on my Octy - the recirc icon on the Climatronic doesn't come on :finger:

Something that can be dealer tweaked?

I don't know of any Octy's having it...

Oh, and Fabia owners will also notice that if they have their front wipers on, then when they engage reverse the rear wiper will automatically sweep.

I feel left out  My wipers don't give the extra wipe (March 04 furbie vRS) could it be because it's yellow?

It must be coz it's yellow ;)

I think you may be able to get someone with VagCOM to turn it on/off, dunno for sure though as I haven't got it myself (yet ;))

I stand corrected too - it switches to recirc but indeed the light does not come on. I tried what the difference in sound would be like (as I have not had the need to use recirc as yet :D)

Surprised it doesn't close the sunroof, in case you have the kinda smoke as from Rob's avatar
