standard fabia vrs. can i upgrade to all optional extras?

Featured Replies

Don't forget the little things.... Under parcel shelf cargo net... Pop out 'n' flip cup holder.

OEM Sat Nav can't possibly be worth the effort these days? Especially when the Fabia is Double Din as standard..

Of all the OEM options not on my car (I already fitted Cruise) I think I'd most like heated seats... but it'll never happen.

You know you love them, and some other mods I've done hehe

Thanks for the advice and info, how much is the oem sat nav radio?

Also cruise control, how is this done?

I'd like to do it myself however I'm thinking about getting a garage to fit some of the extras I want like sat nav radio, cruise control etc as I know if I start doing stuff on it I will end up breaking it lol ;)

how much is the cruise control set up?

New - probably astronomical

Used - readily available on eBay - but still generally a pretty high price

I have the OEM satnav radio and to be honest I wouldnt bother with it. The maxidot part is good but the actual Satnav is too old and basic, not touch screen, its also CD based so you have to buy each individual country on CD at over £100 each where a DVD based system you can get the whole of Europe for the price of one CD. If I can get an aftermarket that could work with the maxidot I would replace it.

Budget around £200, depending on who you get to fit it.

You can get the stalk for £65 and do it DIY, but it will need coding with VCDS

i could fit it myself ive seen a guide and looks pretty straight forward, just couldnt code it as i dont have the equipment, would a skoda dealer do the coding and would they be expensive?

Before looking at dealers might be looking at http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/74720-list-of-vag-com-diagnostic-system-vcds-owners/page__gopid__2421969#entry2421969 to see if anyone on this list is near you who may be willing to do it for a pint or two. I would but its quite a drive from here! ;)

Cheers

To be honest, I would not go with the CD changer and factory sat nav. Aftermarket is the way to go, then upgrading to amped speakers and adding a subwoofer is much easier. Why have 6 cd's under the seat, when you could have a hard disk full of MP3 albums or an ipod connected :)

Redone my earlier post with is it worth it? cost??

Had a look at the Skoda UK catalogues that I have for MKI Fabia

From late facelift catalogue

Factory fit Options on all Fabias MKI

6CD changer under seat....Not worth it as HIFI's have moved on, use a USB port to a 1TB Hard drive!!

Electric sunroof....Costly, and are you good with cutting the car body work to bits????

Passenger airbag deactivation switch....Should be just a switch and a bit of cable from the dealers and a recode using VCDS???

Metallic paint....Respray??

Side airbags....Costly unless you find a good crashed set and can get the controller, so impossable???

Third rear headrest....Could be done from a scrapped car ok.

Factory fit options for VRS Fabia MKI

Cruise control (standard on late spec Elegance)....Easy standard retro fit just the stalk and a VCDS recode.

ESP....Can be done but requires ESP/ABS unit, and gyro sensor unit and wiring and time to fit it, costly??

Heated front seats (standard on Elegance)....Can be done but getting it to look right and the cost for the pads and the switches and wiring???

Double din sat nav (should get Maxi-dot display in dash as well)(requires 6CD changer to be fitted)....No point as technology has moved on, you can get a much better double DIN set up for less than the cost of a good OEM unit!!

Xenon headlights inc headlight washers....Easyish standard upgrade, but not many do the washers though due to time to fit and a faf??? And the OEM ones have an auto leveling sensor fitted to the rear axle!!!!

Dealer fit options for VRS Fabia MKI

Leather trim upgrade (seats etc)....Any good seat retrimmers can do this.

Reversing sensors (standard on late spec Elegance, avaliable for all Fabias)....Also available as an OEM dealerfit kit so could be worth doing.

Cup holder at side of stereo (avaliable for all Fabias)....Easy to do and £32 max from dealer.

Items not listed but required for "full spec"

Cup holder/ash tray in rear of center console (standard on Elegance)....Easy to do and avaliable from dealer.

Electric rear windows (only avaliable for early Fabias, standard on early Elegance)....Would have to come from a scapped car to cut the cost down, but would take time to fit as new window mechs and new drivers door loom, and rear door looms required and other items!!

Sunset privacy glass on rear side windows (only fitted to late spec Sport and SE editions)....Get them tinted by a window tinting company.

Red seatbelts (only fitted to Sport editions)....Easyish to do, just the cost of 5 new belts!

Storage draw under drivers seat (draw from Europe passenger seat)....Easy and cheap to do.

Later high spec Fabias have a "three button" remote for the alarm...Early high spec ones have a "two button" remote....Don't know, could be impossable!

There are other "bits"......but the above list would make it have all the items from the factory that are fitted to the other spec Fabias, and all the Factory options and specific options to the VRS.!!! B)

Electric sunroof....Costly, and are you good with cutting the car body work to bits????

Mine has the electric sunroof. Not seen one without but it has 4 gutters which run down from sunroof to A pillar door frame (these are visible with the doors open), and to behind the rear wheel arch trims. If these are not present as standard I can imagine them being the worst component to retrofit. You'd need to swap the entire roof liner too as it is designed differently to accommodate the sunroof when it slides back, and has the sliding blind integrated. I'd swap my sunroof for aircon in an instant if I could.

If we're really running through all "options" there's also the SE's red calipers, much superior to the standard green... (apart from the fact they fade to pink!) :'(

If we're going down the "Fitted in other countries" route... Then..

Front, OEM Arm rest... Yes, there was a genuine one with a proper, floor mounting bracket.

Arm rest in the rear seat back, with ski hatch.

Auxiliary heater for heat before the engines up to temp.

DRL's have been listed at one point but no more info on these has ever been found.. could be the full beams running at a lower voltage.

Chrome strip for above the rear reg plate

Pop-in rear window and rear side window sun visors.

Boot cubby bags.

.... a NON Skoda part I've always wanted to see fitted... a 3rd party was found once that made Fabia Heated front screens.

Don't suppose you've any idea on part nos etc for this Rob?

Parking sensors one? not to costly mod..

Agreed mine were £24 from eBay and easy to fit.

They looked very smart

Boot cubby bags.

Got two of those (left and right) - and the plastic boot tray.

Chrome strip for above the rear reg plate

Pop-in rear window and rear side window sun visors.

Boot cubby bags.

Was trying not to go down the slippery slope of "accessories".... :giggle:

Quote from earlier post;

But I do like the mention of this other "factory" fit item!!!!

"Arm rest in the rear seat back, with ski hatch".

AS for this:

.... "a NON Skoda part I've always wanted to see fitted... a 3rd party was found once that made Fabia Heated front screens."

There are seveal motorsport companies in the UK who will fit supply one!..... Demon Tweeks even had it in their red book......B)

I've just found out about another "upgrade" from another thread.....

The vRS didn't get the boot release lever down by the fuel filler cap lever (both on the drivers lower door sill)!!!!
