Head light washers question? and clock in yeti?

Hi all, does anyone know if it's possible to turn of the head light washer jets on the yeti?

With the weather being bad now I'm using loads of windscreen wash and most of it's going on the lights unfortunately, so I'm thinking there must be a way to turn them off?

Also I have the bolero and was wondering if there is a clock on it anywhere in the settings? I'm fed up with having to tell my wife the time whenever she asks on long journeys as the only one I've seen is on the MFD

The headlight washers operate every 5 'squirts' and as far as I know you can't turn them off. Maybe a software adjustment is needed??

The only clock is in the MDF display.

Does your wife wear a watch??

Oh that's rubbish on both accounts then!

I put 3 litres in last week and I've got the running low alert on the dash already, damn headlight washers! Seemed like such a good idea too.

I'm afraid the answer to both queries is no.

In respect of the headlamp washers I think they are compulsory with the HID lamps as the dazzle/scatter may otherwise be a problem. I also think it is best to keep lamps clean -they get as dirty or dirtier than the screen.

As to the clock it is an annoying oversight on the Bolero and I have not heard of a fix-it may be worth going for a search around the Briskoda ICE section in case the wider community has found a workaround. I have a small analogue clock attached to the dashtop-and it isn't a great idea but does minimise the annoyance.

Pull the fuse for the headlamp washers and they will stop, half of the ones that come in for service during the winter are blown anyhow.

Wow really that's an interesting one. I looked through the MFD settings there's an on/off for the rear wiper strangely but nothing for the light washer jets, if it's a known problem that they blow anyway, why wouldn't skoda have an on/off switch.

Pretty sure VCDS can alter the frequency of the headlamp washers (not personally looked for it though).

I know the Columbus has the facility of having the clock showing, not sure about the Bolero though :blush:

I think the wash frequency can be adjusted by dealer software change in steps of 5 using their computer box of tricks. They normally wash the lights after every 5 windscreen washes.

I don't like the unpredictability of the wash cycle as if it happens in icy weather the flimsy mechanism can jam out.

Happened to me last winter...dealer suggested change frequency to 20 instead of every 5. Reduces but doesn't

solve problem. Can't be done in Maxidot.

Clock or lack of is a pain with Skodas designers not engaging brain!!

If you look on the things we don't like about the Yeti thread you will see a fairly long list of annoying

foibles that ought to be rectified in next model year update...but me thinks Skoda not responsive

to customer feedback.....A SHAME!!! They can't even get the brochure right.

I'm glad I went for the Columbus, but it is an expensive clockemoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Shows the time when switched off, or displays when in use where the radio/media etc is beside the extras.

A tip for saving screen wash.

If you need to clean the screen when you first get in the car, do it before you turn the lights on so the lamp washers don't activate.

I'm sure it might be a PITA with auto lights though?

Do what I do when stationary in traffic .

Switch the lights to side lights ,and then give the windscreen a quick wash before going back to auto or headlights on.

The only problem with that are:

1/ dirty xenon's will scatter their light :thumbdown:

2/ xenon's 'do not like' being turned off / on in a short space of time and it shortens their life (which is why you have a separate halogen bulb for flashing the main beam on bi-xenon equipped cars).

On point 2: I know the Superb has a additional halogen bulb for flashing but I'm sure the Yeti does not. So we poor sods flash with Xenons. AND they stupidly decided to use the Xenons for the coming home/leaving home lights too! Daft. But thankfully you changed mine via the VCDS so my fogs now do that job prolonging the life of my Xenons! Ta! :giggle:

And back OT: The clock. Urgh.... what a daft idea not to have one on the Bolero. Really daft. Maybe buy a stick on clock that you put inside the cover of the dash-top storage area? If she wants to see the time she can just open the lid! hehehe

Have what?? bi-xenon's? no...... xenon's? yes they do (depending on spec)

Big Rich is saying the same thing I did earlier Martin: Yetis do not have separate halogen lights for flashing. We only have the Xenon bulbs.

Ah ok! Yes get you now... But alas the Yeti headlight design is thus not as advanced as the Superb's.

[We've had a long thread about this issue before: the Yeti DOES have Bi-Xenons since the dip and main beam are done with Xenons. The Superb has Bi-Xenons as well as the additional high beam halogens. It is not these additional halogens that give the Superb's Bi-Xenons their name. A Xenon that does both dipped and main is called a Bi-Xenon in the general world out there since some cars have Xenons to only do the one or the other.]

I rarely do a journey that requires the washers to be used 5 times.

The problem is, that everytime I use the washers, for probably the only time, it washes the headlights, which I have invariably cleaned before setting off.....:@

Unless you're a serial flasher I wouldn't have thought the life expectancy would be reduced significantly if at all. I don't think I've felt the need to flash anyone in my 5000 Yeti miles. (Yes puns intended throughout!)

Same problem with the clock in my beastie, neither of us wear watches on a regular basis, but found a good alternative at Argos, stock number 255-3036 which is a digital clock with BIG numbers, date, temperature, radio controlled time setting which I've blu-tacked to the top of the dash locker. Advantage is, it's a completely see-through display but all data visible in daylight & dark without losing any vision thru the front screen. Give it a try, at £19.99, not bad value either.
