Broken phone

Featured Replies

Blackberry's construction is rubbish, had the lens cover come off loads of times till i decided to glue it on, the top buttons came off replaced it once then gave up, just dialled 911 to unlock the keypad, the keypad started to come off and then the usb charging point decided to come out when the battery's flat aswell! BB's seem to be held together by double sided sticky tape!

Now replaced it with a galaxy s11, cost me nowt after the retension person spent 30 mins looking around the net for the best deal for me, O2 customer service at it's best! So i'm paying £32 a month with all i need for 18months

Something to consider if you are replacing the whole screen is that some of the earlier Desires have an AMOLED screen and the later ones have a S-LCD... Don't think they are interchangeable.

The phone is a year old, and if I can get away with it, I'll just replace the glass. The phone and touchscreen still works, but I've stopped using it because I don't want glass shards going up under my fingernails! :o

Given that claiming on insurance will, as stated here, hike my insurance for years to come, I will probably scrabble together enough for a second hand replacement one from someone on here.

I've seen some replacement screens on eBay, but they say for desire G7 model. How do I know if its a G7?

Shame I'm not close to being able to get the Sensation yet (well unless we get a crimbo bonus this year), as my AMOLED Desire is in mint condition.

I've stuck an ipod screen protector over it to stop bits of glass coming out. Still working so not in a burning rush gadgetman.....

And if I can work out how to tell if its a g7 I might even have a go with one of those screens.

If it's not an HD, S or a Z, it's almost certainly a G7. The model is usually A8181

I've had a look under the battery, no sign of the A8181 model number.

What is on the name/data plate? That'll tell you which screen it has

ok, if I remove the battery, there's the IMEI, the S/N and then the Part number which says 99HKZ049-00

In red, above all that, next to the CE number, it says HTC Desire PB99200

There appears to be no other identifying marks.

It's a G7 model A8181.

They make it difficult so people can't check exactly what they are getting as part of a contract.

I had the same problem when I agreed to replace the screen on my mates phone, so I've been through this once before. Fortunately, I saved all the links and emails.

Just out of interest, where did you get the replacement screen from? I've seen replacements on ebay for £17 which look almost too good to be true!

thanks again,

Martin

I didn't order the part, but I'm sure it was £30+
