wiper problem

Featured Replies

Hey! Ive got this annoying problem with my windscreen wipers as soon as the temperature outside drops below 0 C. The problem seems to be with speed level 1 and normal level (wipers off). Wipers working faster than they should in level 1 (wipers wont stop at all like they should) and when i turn them off they still keep going quite a while and might stop middle of the windscreen. So somebody got any clue about this :) ? thx!

Water ingress into your rear washer motor, or maybe a faulty wiper stalk would be my first two guesses. Once the cabin temp has warmed up do the wipers behave any better?

Hmm i think no..

No to everything? Well in that case I am fresh out of ideas!

I think no, as the OPs car appears to be a pre 2001 Octavia which didn't have a rear washer and wiper system. The problem is likely a faulty front wiper motor, the parking switch goes and they end up behaving wierdly.

The other thing it could be is the wiper 'relay' under the dash, but in most cases it is the parking switch. The parking switch does not directly control the motor supply - it is an input to the wiper 'relay'.

I was wondering about a sticky relay - hence the question about if things improved once the cabin temp was above freezing, but I assumed the "No" applied to that as well.

As I also suggested a stalk and got a "no" to that that must mean the only problem can be the wiper motor and the parking switch itself :-)

Hey again. I need to change my last answer a little bit. Seems like its working better after the capinet is warmed up. Not messing around all the time anymore, but after warmed up the problem is not totally gone, might happen like once in 15minutes or something like that. And sometimes i hear this relay sound under the dash.

The 'relay' module for the wipers is double width and should have 377 printed on it. It's on the relay plate under the dash.

That might be the problem? is there anykind of picture how it should look like and see where it might be correctly.

Ty! im just wondering, which one i should change first, the parking switch or the relay under the dash? is it sounding like it might be better to change relay first if the cabinet temperature seems to have something to do with this problem, because if i noticed right, wipers working better after the capinet is warmed up.

You can't change the parking switch as it's an integral part of the wiper motor. The first thing I would check, is the connector to the motor - check the green/black wire isn't damaged and the motor is well grounded by the brown wire.

The wiper 'relay' is quite tall and I've seen a couple that just need unplugging and plugging back in again. This tends to clean the contacts and makes sure it is fully in.

Hmm okay. Final question, where i can locate this wiper motor ?

And thx for the good answers! =)

The wiper motor is located under the scuttle panel that has the wiper spindles come through.
