Turbo Pipes

Featured Replies

Hello All,

I'm guessing I've blown a turbo pipe on my vRS Octavia (53 plate). I have loud whistling, but no power. My boost gauge gets to 0psi but no further. The whistling seems to be coming from the fron offside corner.

Which pipes am I best checking to see if ones split/blown off? The Haynes manual isn't helping much! Where are they and which is the best way to get to them?

Cheers!

the intercooler pipe behind the drivers wheell has propably come off should be fairly simple to check if all okay check the intercooler hasnt split

next on the list if the above is okay is a siezed turbo normally associated with blocked oil pick up pipe.

Pancake pipe would be my guess, or the flexi section between that and the turbo.

Does the pancake pipe run to the intercooler?

On my TDI there is a short 1-2inch rubber section of pipe to join the two together.... but yes, one end to the intercooler the other ends towards the turbo.

Same on the 1.8T. The rubber pipe will have either come off between the metal pancake pipe and the intercooler, or there's a section of pipe from the turbo to the pancake pipe which sometimes comes off at the pancake pipe end.

You'll need to jack the offside corner up, remove the wheel and undo the arch liner to get to the pipes.

A good upgrade is to fit a set of these hoses with nice stainless hose clamps :-

The short large dia section one in the pic is the one that goes between the pancake pipe - intercooler.

Forge dont do a replacement, as of yet, for the other end of the pancake pipe ( stainless down pipe from turbo to pancake pipe).

Thanks for the advice, finally got some time so am tacking this today. Fingers crossed.

Whilst I'm at it, she's not well at the mo.

When I press CD on the radio to kick in the CD changer, it thinks then says "No CD". Then won't acknowledge any further presses of CD until the ignition's turned off and on again.

Also my rear offside door will not unlock. All the others do but it's firmly deadlocked. How irritiating. Any ideas?

Thanks

Check whether the washer pipe has split in the boot and water got into the wiring loom for the multichanger. Silly question but has the cartridge got any CDs in it (and they need to be real CDs, it won't play mp3 data cds)

Probably the microswitch in the door, mine did this but after a trip to Scotland and my girlfriend slamming the other doors quite a lot it seemed to sort itself out. Otherwise I think you have to get the door card off from the inside somehow to release the lock, then fix or replace the microswitch.

Right- Bad afternoon.

I've had the wheel arch liner out and checked all the turbo and intercooler pipes as best I can. They're all attached and I can't feel a spilt. Still no turbo.

As mentioned, it spools up, whistling louder then normal, my boost gauge gets to 0 but no further and I have no power from my turbo.

Now what?!?!?

Take the tip off ( the big black pipe with the air mass sensor ) and make sure the turbo inpeller is spinning , ovb make sure engine is cold and turned off

Have you got a fault code scanner?

Possibly the N75 has failed and the wastegate is stuck open, but I'd expect you to still get at least a bit of boost if that's happening.

Did you check the intercooler itself? There may be a hole in it!

sounds like a fecked turbo take tip off you will prob find you cant spin it (if it is siezed new turbo req aswell as new oil pickup )

Would it still whistle if it was seized?

I'm guessing a new turbo is v pricey. Is ther a guide anywhere to taking it off as it's in a very silly place!!

Intercooler checked, seemed ok.

Air still goes into it so it might whistle as air forces over the blades.

We are talking about blown pipes and maybe a seized turbo but what if it has gone into limp mode? Would it produce any pressure then?
