De-cat pipe's

Featured Replies

I'm looking at a decat pipe to go with the piper setup I won, can anybody recommend a cheap and cheerful one please I don't rely want to spend a fortune, Magnex do a sub £100 pipe and this was the sort of cash I'm hoping I can get one for. Cheers folks :)

As it's just a piece of pipe with connecting flanges at either end why not get one made at a Powerflow centre, they were always very reasonably priced. they would probably fit the Piper system as the same time too.

Carl.

the cat is in the down pipe so not as simple.

I think you over estimate the difficulty of the job, it's bread and butter to Powerflow.

Carl.

I didnt want to go into detail but basically when I went to power flow for my mufflerectomy and mentioned to him about fitting a decat down pipe and having them make a centre section Chris (leek) said the £160 for the ones on eBay is the best bet as it would cost more for them to make it.

I am referring to 2.5" as 2.25" would most likely be a bit easier to make as its easier to bend. :)

I got quoted £150 for a 2.5" stainless decat pipe fitted and fabricated by prospeed in Cardiff :)

did you get it done?

Same kinda price as a piper decat £150 isn't it?!

Lee, if you can't really afford it, I really wouldn't bother since you will gain almost nothing from it.

Turbo cars simply don't benefit the same way N/A cars can since they don't utilise exhaust pulse tuning (it is this effect which is disrupted by catalysts and badly made silencers) and most 'backpressure' arguments are simply bull**** for baffling tiny brains, there is little backpressure downstream from the turbo since the turbo itself is removing so much energy from the gas stream.

However, it's your money, waste away.

Your probably right, I would have fitted one at under a hundred but the Magnex ones aren't available any more and the cheapest I have found is £160 for a miltek. I was half temped to sell the exhaust I won as the standard one is mint.

+/- £90 from my (then) local exhaust place in Bristol. Infinity?? IIRC. Flanged at each end so come 2012 when I need to bolt the old cat back in.... no worries

My mechanic assures me I won't need to re fit a cat next year.

the rules are changing in january.

from jan 1st missing cat will be an advise

from april 1st missing cat will be a fail

that applys for any car that had a cat fitted standard and manufactured after 1993ish

You can also cut off the cat and replace it with a straight pipe.

2 clamps and your done.

Has this actually been set in stone yet? Been keeping eyes open on DfT's website and still not seen anything other that Proposed changes..

ive heard off a few mot testers that a change is being mad that a cat must be visable. if you want to go through the effort you could take the inards out of your cat and weld a pipe in there making it a decat but visually you have a cat fitted, abit pikey but it would work.

It's still only petrols that are tested for emissions so no need to swap . . . . It's been posted about a million times since the new rules were issued! Diesels are not effected. The MOT testers handbook was posted a while back, should have been sticky really.

#Winning!!!

Make your own fella :)

Cut the original bit of the cat out and replace with a sleeve of pipe :) That way you have an effective decat without massive costs.

Piece of pipe about 30cm long - Very little money wise, and then someone to weld it in place, id say £10 tops :)

Plus it will be a perfect fit, i had one fitted, worked with the same effect as a normal decat, and i still had money ;)

Cheers, Elliott
