Microsoft Office 2010 - How many installations ?

Featured Replies

I have a Retail version.

How can I tell how many installations are allowed ?

Nick

Which flavour?

Home and Student version with the disc allows 3 installations, the keycard only allows 1.

All others only allow 1 unless specified on the box.

Hi

From memory I have done two plus used it to update a laptop from a earlier version of office, next time I tried it it wouldn't allow registration

as many as you want.

as long as you only install it on the amount of computers then it can be installed over and over again. you will need to phone microsoft and give a code which will return another code to activate it but its all automated.

You can install it as many times as you like. It's just that you can only have it installed and activated a max of three.

Just like windows.

Whenever I re-install Windows 7 on my laptop I have to phone up to activate as it has previously been activated. It's freephone anyway.

Only the home / student edition allows for 3 installs, all other editions are a single install only per product key.

When you do the phone activation, the previously installed copy is deactivated and when that pc next checks for updates its possible that you'll get a red title bar in office and a Activation Wizard pop up on the now deactivated copy. This is because the product key is validated against the known anonymous machine ID (GUID) held by MS and if they dont match it flags an error.
