Featured Replies

please help, currently run a octavia VRS 2.0T , hav been nudged with 2 kids and a dog .. (kids I went with dog was more the Mrs and eldest kid idea) ...so been looking at MPV's ..... err wash my mouth out with soap

but on christmas eve santa pushed me pass (actually had to go to a JJB sports shop to get my little boy his liverpool football kit and boots that at the last minute asked santa for) a skoda dealer where they had a end of year with £4000 grand of a superb 1.8 est , with a few extras

is the match of 1.8 and est a good match, as much as i like my performance the dog dosnt like being throuwn around in the boot of my car ...

please help

Can't comment on the 1.8 engine David, but the Estate is fantastic. Remember the Superb is no vRS but still reasonably competent and built more for cruising than racing

The estate is very big and given that you have a dog and 2 kids will be very useful. There is acres of rear legroom in the back and the dog will have no problem with the boot.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with a 1.8Tsi Combi. If you fancy a ride in my Greenline Combi, let me know, as I live not far from you.

The 1.8Tsi makes sense if your annual mileage is average.

You might get biased answers here!

My own biased answer is tinged by the fact that I've used most types of VW, Audi, Skoda, SEAT plus lots of BMWs and Mercs owned by car dealers in the UK and supplied as company cars. I now provide my own cars and could have chosen any of the above, or any of the decent Aussie stuff. I chose a Superb II Wagon. Because I do 100,000kms a year I'm using a diesel. If I did less kms I'd be in a 1.8 or 3.6 petrol. If I was in a 1.8 I'd be sorely tempted to have it chipped, especially if I was coming out of a vRS.

Well with what you have, an estate would be a wise choice. As for 1.8TSI, it really depends on your usage.

Having had a MPV (Mit. Grandis) before my present 1.8TSI Superb Combi serves its purpose better than the MPV.

Mainly due to the fact that 65% of the time is only me driving alone, 30% with full family (me, wifey and 2 young kids) and 5% with 3 passenger with 4 Golf bags.

been over to see superb to day and must say very nice

ok ... no VRS looks wise but inside is like the tardis

my little boy loved it he so much room in the back "its massive" ....

sods law the sales guy who i had been dealing with was with an awkward elderly customer (nothing against elderly as my old man has just bought a car and who ever sold him a car needs a nighthood) ... when i went in they were looking at a fabia (they got a fiesta) , nearky an hour later they were looking at octavia est and even looked over the superb ... but think they were put off by my little boy saying this is out car .... so said i would contact him tomorrow

just been reading the brouchure and just noted that there is a difference in engines between the SE and SE plus

SE has a 160PS and SE plus has 152PS .... what is the difference ... is the SE Plus a cleat and model using old spec engines ....

No the SE Plus is a new model in the range using a new engine.

I have the 1.8 with a DSG in an estate and it pulls well in every situation so far, but I've never had a VRS, so I guess it depends how much you use the power. It's a really smooth drive so the dog should be ok.

For me the 1.8 makes sense, it's got lots of power and has none of the turbo lag you get in an older Ford or VW desiel.

But I don't pay for fuel, the 170psi diesel I test drove was a great drive too, quiet and quick and did 60 mpg on the 1 hour test drive.

I have a friend with a 1.8 manual in the hatch/saloon and he says it beats his old Mondao hands down for power and mpg.

Hi David

Savilles at Kidderminster have one too that I was thinking about but I prefer the DSG version.

http://www.savillesgarage.com/skoda-for-sale-midlands.php

The 1.8 TSI uses the same engine model as the current petrol VRS ie the EA888 engine. Same bore just shorter stroke in the 1.8 TSI which means you can rev it higher. The quoted acceleration of the 1.8 TSI version of the Octavia and Superb are remarkably close to the 2 litre petrols ie only half a second slower or so less to 60 mph, different grows to 100 mph ie more than a second.

So yes slightly less performance but then becuase the engine produces its max power at 4500 rpm ie 2500 short of redline, there is plenty of room for a remap to give more power, about 50 hp it appears normal to go for with that power still well within the redline.

I decided to wait for the new January-March deals. I suspect the prices may go 1 or 2% but there should be some cracking finance deals again ie VW Finance will be able to borrow Euros at very low rates from the ECB so this should translate in to deals much better than current ones.

Superb is a much heavier than Octavia, it is like carry one or two adults in the Octavia but with the money saved on buying and on the fuel consumption being 10% or so better than the 2 litre spending a few hundred quid on a remap would more than plug that gap.

I am going to order just a "S" version and then spec it up as I want the 16 inch wheels and buy 18s for summer. Again it will be from Savilles I expect though I see the internet companies can do it a grand cheaper than the VAT free deals.

We have a TSI VRS and the 1.8 TSI DSG but looking forward to the extra space as kids are approaching 5'9 to 6 foot so rear room is becoming a must over Octavia.
