water in boot cubby hole?

Featured Replies

Hi all, just noticed my cd changer stopped working first it sasde no magazine the wont work at all . so looked in cubby hole in boot whwere the changer lives and foud it to swimming in water.

Where would the likely place be for ingress to this cubby? I'm going to try to suck iout the water today at work and hope it dries out. My main concern is the wiring harness that runs down through thiscausing all sorts of problems.

Does the rear washer work ok?

If not or if it's just giving a trickle then the fluid pipe has probably come apart at a join behind the CD changer. You'll need to unmount the changer then pull the boot trim off to get to the pipes and re-connect them.

The washer jet needs to be checked and/or replaced as well as if that's blocked that will be what's causing the pressure that made the pipes come apart.

If it's not the washer jet then the only other place I can think of is a dodgy boot lid seal

Cheers for quick reply. Erm, I'm not sure if the rear washer is broken or not. it doesn't spray like the front ones it pours down the back window when turned on but its more than a trickle.

Once you've dried it out try not using the rear washer for a week and see if the water comes back, if it does then you'll know it's rain getting in through a seal. If not then its worth investigating the fluid hoses.

Chances as it will be the rear window wash pipe... maybe it is just leaking a bit. Otherwise if your car has a sunroof, I think the rear drains route through that area too.

Just had a look.again and noticed a large pipe coming down from the rear left piller that should exit through the floor was just tucked on behind the cd changer. Drain hose? Will dry and see how it goes as I've connected it back up. Mind you its really big for a washer hose?

That is the sunroof drain - there are 2 rears, and 2 at the front drain out of the front A-pillars.

Try tasting the water - if no flavour then it is probably rain water, otherwise probably windscreen wash solution....

Errrm......I think i'll not bother tasting thanks, I draw the line at toilet duck :smirk:

Its certainly not clear, looks like a pale ale (hoeggarrden) and smells fowl (rusty water).

Will this ave blown a fuse for the cd changer somewhere or do I have to just dry out all the connectors etc,and it will work again?

On the plus side I found an Ecotek valve down there too, but the way its looking I think it has been used by a previous owner as a novel smoking implament. :giggle: tut, tut.
