Skoda Superb CD changer retrofit? - help.

Featured Replies

Guys,

A colleague with a 2010 Skoda Superb estate has the single widescreen CD player up front and wants to add the factory CD (6 stack?) changer. Can any body advise the part number and whether the changer is the same as fitted to a VW or Audi and if so what part number that might be?

I presume we'd need a cable and can anyone advise where it is mounted in the car? I am also guessing that the car would need to be coded too?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

It might make sense that you retrofit the whole Bolero with the internal CD changer AND SD-Card Slot. There are ppl who update from Bolero to Columbus and sometimes the used Boleros are actually cheap. (400?)

I am not sure of the name of the head unit he already has and will need to check. I know that it already has the SD-card slot though.

If, then go for the Bolero, as the external changer doesnt read any MP3 files. Is in fact a very old changer.

And he will need the cables to conect it. Too much of a hassle. Changing it to a Bolero is easier and might even

be cheaper. (as he can sell his current head unit).

Happy New Year!

CD? What the h*ll is that ? What does it do ? :giggle:

He has the Columbus. So the question is why does he want a cd changer when he has a hard drive and sd. So yesterday.

Because he is an eldery gent who has no interest in MP3 and SD cards.

OK, that is plausible.

He would still have to change the cds in the back of the car, but can always use the slot in the head unit to listen to new cds.

The cable is the right one, he will only need the bracket to install the changer in the back of his car. Dont know whether the superb already has one.

Still the MP3s are much easier to handle and I never used my changer (in combination with the Columbus) ;)

Thanks for the reply. So is that the right changer? He doesn't have the bracket as the manual says that it should be mounted in the back right hand corner of the car and nothing is in the cubby hole. I would also guess that he'd have to change the wheel arch trim to one that can accommodate the changer? Plus I presume the car would need to be coded?

CD changer looks like the right one too.

In the Octavia it was on the left hand side behind the trim. Try to take out the cubby hole and look behind it.

Coding shouldnt be necessary as it is directly conected to the columbus.

Ok great. So the next question is how do you pull the Columbus out to plug the lead in to the back of it?

You will have to remove the surround of the head unit to find the 4 torx screws to remove it.

Here you can see where they are located (the ears on the head unit :) )

Thanks again. Is there an online parts catalogue anywhere so I can work out the cradles part number? The local dealer is unhelpful.

Was trying to find something with google, but I couldnt.

Maybe one of the othe members, closer to Skoda, could figure out the parts number for the bracket.

What I found, is that the superb can have two versions of the columbus.

One as posted here, and there is a version with wider buttons. They have to be removed differently, as you can see in the manual below:

Only problem is the head units in the photos are NOT a Columbus. They are Bolero units which were updated sometime at the beginning of 2011 I think, hence the 2 versions. The picture in the web page header is of a Columbus and they have 4 buttons each side, the bottom left button being for 'TONE and not 'PHONE'. The Bolero has always had 3 buttons each side, with the lower left button being 'PHONE' as in the photos. In the top photo you can actually read the head unit name.

Oops didnt look that far, my mistake.

Knew about the two versions of the bolero and thought the Columbus might have been changed too.

Dont have my Octavia anymore, so I am not that up to date. ;)
