Octavia Estate Scuttle panel removal

Recommended Posts

It just peels up, it will be in there quite tight so you have to get a flat edge underneath it to lever it up. You'll have to have the wipers off and kind of twist the two scuttle panel halves round the bonnet hinges to completely remove them

and take care as in the cold they are brittle. Although I have removed mine many times before, I broke one of mine "getting it started" when removing from the middle :-(

do it in warm weather, using your hand only.

there is a small channel on the scuttle and you lift it directly away from the flat surface of the screen (kinda like if you lift a box straight upwards off a table - except remember you'll be doing this at an angle as screen is angled)

order a new one and rag the old one off, if you're lucky enough for it to stay in one piece it'll bend and twist and never go back right. £32 iirc

There is no reason why it should twist, unless you are really abusing it. Mine has been on and off numerous times (several windscreens, wiper linkage at least 3 times, scuttle area cleaning a few times, etc).

As title says how does it come off

Seams to be attached to the screen

Any ideas would be great

Hi there as members have said is a little tricky to remove as the top section it located in a grove to but up close to windscreen. but can be done if careful. removed mine a few times now.

Before I removed the wipers I placed tape above and below the blades to make it easier to relocate arms in correct position.

Remove the plastic wiper covers that sit over the nuts

VRSCruiseControlFitting002.jpg

Spray wiper bolts with WD40 to help release them if tight. Remove nuts with 13mm socket then pull wipers upwards from window which will help easier removal from spindles.

Pic of wipers removed.

Then remove the rubber strip that sits over plastic cowling

Remove the plastic cowling. It is in 2 sections and held in quite tight and sits in a groove at bottom of windscreen, so be careful to lever it off without snapping the plastic lugs.

Cowling removed, can also see the ECU in the center of slam panel, which you will need access to later.

I know  They grey ones have a charcoal bit in them, iirc.

I then fill mine up with bits of leaf, pine needles and dead insects.

That is the other job i did with panel off.

Clean the drain holes and crud from the scuttle area. I also sprayed around with waxoyl to protect any seems and area from corrosion.

I also removed mudflaps and plastic arch liners and pulled all the trapped leaves and crud from under there to as that get full of rubbish.

Just got my scuttle cover off today thanks to the tips on here - thanks a lot all.

I did struggle with it a bit until I saw the 'lift it straight up' tip - the holes in the scuttle look they are for clips, but they aren't, it's just held into the windscreen channel.

Also I did two things to make it easier to remove them. First I used a rubber and silicone lubricant which I sprayed both along the inside of the scuttle cover (after lifting the front edge up) and along the outside along the bottom of the windscreen, letting it soak in for a few moments. Second I used a hairdryer for a minute or so on the top edge of the cover (not too hot) to make the plastic more malleable. After these two tweaks the immovable covers popped off very smoothly. My word there was a lot of detritus under there.

Now all I have to do is fire up the 'Vette and take a trip to the motor factors and pay the standard over the top French spare part prices for a new filter. :whew:

Someone should really do a video on the removal of the scuttle panel. That would be a lot easier to follow. And since it's such a common issue, it would be helpful to a lot fo people.

In fact, there's probably a few different 'easy' DIY jobs that deal with common problems that would be more effectively shown through a video tutorial.

Thoughts?

Sorry to resurrect zombie thread lads, I had to remove this panel in order to remove the heater box after my heater core/matrix exploaded.

Now I'm having all sorts of problems resealing it.... and the left rear seat passenger footwell is like a fecking swimming pool...at least three inches of rain water

The panel isn't water tight and isn't ment to be, your issues will from the other bits you have taken off and not sealing properly

@FREEDOM

When I removed the pollen filter housing, it was only sealed by some thin foam between the heaterbox inlet plenium and the pollen filter housing... this wasn't watertight..... and never caused any issues before I removed the darn scuttle panel....

Any ideas about what product is recomended for sealing the scuttle panel against the windscreen?

Does the area behind the have a drain channel I may have inadvertantly blocked? Im kinda worried about the ECU getting soaked

Thanks lads, finally sorted the scuttle panel sealing issue.

Problem was a blocked drain channel hole just to the right of the pollen filter, it was filled with leaves , dead insects and other assorted detritus that had no doubt been disturbed by me during the earlier heater matrix replacment shenanagains... Plus a thin bead of RTV sealent as the scuttle panel was finally slotted into place...

there is a small channel on the scuttle and you lift it directly away from the flat surface of the screen (kinda like if you lift a box straight upwards off a table - except remember you'll be doing this at an angle as screen is angled)

I am having problems getting mine off (need to investigate as major passenger footwell water ingress), & I don't quite understand how it can pull straight up, because the grooves on the scuttle, from what I can see, are like a squared C shape....so if I try to lift it straight upwards, it just won't budge because one flat bit of the square C stops it.

I must be wrong (because I tried the following & it still won't release) but it appears like I need to pull the scuttle downwards (away) from the bottom edge of the screen, & the angles they lay at, this would mean pulling it away from the screen, ie towards the front bumper.

Either way I tried, as said it won't come off.

I could use a bit more force but am worried I will break something.

I sprayed between the bottom of screen & scuttle with silicone aerosol spray, using the thin straw attachment.

I'm tempted to book it in to Skoda just to get them to remove it.

fwiw my wipers won't come off either. So basically I am defeated & deflated.

Can anyone help I doubt it, but by all means have a laugh grrr
