Tyre Pressures for Superb Combi 1.8 TSI

Featured Replies

This is my first post in this forum. I currently own a pre-owned Skoda Superb Combi 1.8 TSI DSG and have a question about the correct tyre pressure.

I fitted the car with winter tyres (205/55/16) in November (I live in northern europe) and I noted that the tyre pressures for 205/55/16 tyres are a bit strange. On the fuel filler cap it says that for this dimension I should have 2.2 front and 2.5 rear. I have however seen other posts in this forum where it says that, at least for the TDI 170, the recommended pressures are 2.4 both front and rear. Are the pressures different for different engines or is there a misprint in my car? For 225/45/17 it says that I should have 2.2 both front and rear. Why would the recommend a higher pressure for the rear tires for 205/55/16? Note that I am talking about the pressures for an unloaded vehicle.

If you had RTFM, you would have seen a line saying winter tire pressure should be +0.2bar more than the sticker is saying :)

Petrol engine is probably lighter than diesel thous lower pressure on front tires. Although 2.5 seems a bit high for normal setting.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

You have to excuse the aggressive stile from the earlier poster, not all of us is that hostile!

Sorry Alfaspider, could not resist. :giggle:

But he has a point, the manual is a guide but not the whole truth. You could (not saying that you should...) add 0.2 bar without a problem since the car generally is somewhat heavier than the spec says. For the moment I have 2.7 all around in my 205/55/16 winter tires but thats me.

I did RTFM. And I read the recommended pressures inside the FFFF (32psi). Only got 17,500kms out of the first set of fronts (18s). My local tyre fitter reckons I should use 36psi all round and 40 front, 42 rear when fully laden as this will reduce deformation thus temperatures thus reducing tyre wear. Only 5,000kms since. It certainly steers better with the higher pressures although it's also slightly more jiggly, a combination which I happen to prefer. Fingers crossed for longer life.

Sorry - didn't want to insult anyone, I'm a programmer and I press "F" character automatically :) Just checked mine winter tires (I have 140HP diesel) 205/55/16 and I have them on 2.6 bar. 2.4 is too low for me, I can feel difference in rolling resistance while driving.

No worries from me. I was just joining in. I take it you also had an Alfa Spider at some point? I had 4 Suds and 4 1960s and 70s GTVs. Loved 'em.

Yes, I have RTFM, and have been driving with 2.4 front and 2.7 rear. My question was more a reflection over the great difference in tire pressures between the front and rear tires for this dimension.

The pressures for 225/45/17 tires are the same for both front and rear.
