Mixing oil to top up vRS?

Featured Replies

Hey, really need some oil for my car as its near the min line on the dipstick. I had it serviced by skoda and I believe they used the quantum long life oil (5W30). Just wondering if it is ok to use the quantum 5W40 stuff to top up? I know that both are compatible with the car but I am worried about mixing different oil.

I'm surprised it needs that much tbh, it was serviced 5k miles ago. I did have my egr valve go though and oil came out over the engine cover a bit. Could this be why I have lost this much or was that not engine oil? Also any ideas how much will be needed when it is at the bottom of the hatched area on the stick?

Cheers

It's just fine, normally about a litre from min to max.

Not that I want to argue with you Ross, but I don't think it's anywhere near a litre from the bottom of the hatched line. I had mine down to the same area a couple of months ago, put about half a litre in and that was enough to take me from the bottom of the hatches to the top curve in the dipstick (e.g. well above the hatched area)...ended up overfilled and my mechanic pulled about 200ml back out with a Pela to get it back to the top of the hatches again.

When I filled up I remember it being a fair old few "glugs" to get it to move up the dip stick. Not the best measurement I know but still . . .

Cheers guys, grabbed a litre of the long life stuff from the dealer today. Would have bought 5 litres if I hadn't have posted here as I didn't realise it would be so little from min to max on the stick!
