Forge are trying to sell an expensive bit of kit, of course they will say it gives a 7 BHP increase.

I'm not saying its false, just its no surprise they will say it does that.

The 150s have a FMIC, so yeah that does go some way to say its needed on a mapped car.

Just like the 160 intake though, its usually more for other markets than here in the cold UK.

Interesting that your seeing 70 deg on a 3rd gear run - how long did it take to come back down?

I would argue even a standard PD130 would benefit from an FMIC, even in the UK. The standard SMIC just doesn't have enough cooling ability even on one full throttle run. As I said the standard SMIC can easily hit 70+ degrees. And it takes a bit of cruising before dropping back down. Also even on light boost, inlet temps are 10-12 degrees above ambient with the SMIC.

Even on a cold day your looking at one full wot in third burst for intake temps to reach 70+c.

I'm yet to confirm but I think theirs a map which reduces fuel as IAT rises.

I would have thought even the standard map would reduce fuelling if the IAT rises????

That's what I'm on about. The ecu has thousands of maps in it. Only a few need to be tweaked for more power.

Main issue with most original equipment intercoolers is they are a metal/plastic crimped (if that's the right word) construction. If you plan on running the original KKK turbo then you're effectively limited to about 1.6bar. Running a hybrid or even bigger turbo, boost tends towards 2.0 bar and more. Which is probably more than these types of intercooler can take.

Having written that, if someone's fitted it and run it successfully on a Fabia, I'll plonk a link in on the 1st post. Not everyone wants extreme performance as it's damned expensive.

Yes, I've used a few but not on a diesel engine. My favourite is the one used on a supercharged merc slk.. It's a nice thin profile unit and you can normally get them for about 30 quid from a breakers yard too, sprinter van intercoolers are ideal for a mk2 golf 20v conversion.

It's not the same for diesels as for petrol engines. High IATs on a petrol installation run the risk of detonation and engine/turbo wrecking. In a road-going diesel installation it's all about managing the smoke levels and having to put up with your maximum horsepower decreasing as the IATs go up.

Personally, I think IAT of between 40-60 degrees centigrade is acceptable. Though for power production, the lower/closer to ambiente/outside temperature the better.

Ok well in that case mine are through the roof according to vag-Com.... I have been monitoring it all day and averaging 40-50 on cruise and easily shot upto 80 when pushing on. With an air temp for 4oc....

Well I've ordered one and it was delivered to me today. The core is much better than the standard seat version and will hold hybrid boost better than the SS.

Did look at the Forge kit, but with a lead time of at least 2 weeks and I need something ASAP, so couldn't wait!

As I already have a boost sensor pipe, I've ordered all the pipes I think I'll need....

Talked to Forge last week and they say 2 to 3 weeks to make up an intercooler for you. There is a complete hose kit, http://www.dpmperfor...202-p-6898.html but as I already have a boost sensor pipe, I'm copying their design and have ordered pipes for a DIY version.

The THS one is in stock. Ordered Monday, delivered today

Will get pics loaded up as soon as I can.

225 + 280 plus the brackets bring it about the same as the forge! Hard to decide which one to go for tho! Lol where is the discount code you mentioned for the ths one?

Did you save much doing the piping DIY? Is your sensor port forge?
