manifold flap motor fault

Featured Replies

Hi, hoping you can help :

on a recent trip to southern spain, and at the furthest most point from home, and on boxing day, the exhaust control warning light lit..... great ! went on driving with no symptoms for the next 2000 miles

went to my local mechanic and the car gave the following errors (the best I can remember them)

Manifold flap motor open or ground...... then a seperate code, something about no signal

he reset the error, and the dashboard light went out, it was fine for several start/restarts, then I made my way back to work. Upon driving away tonight, the light is back on

a little research on the net point out that this device is to shut off the air supply when you turn the engine off. Note that there are no issues with driving the car, and no issues when the engine is turned off.

can anyone explain further what the issue might be, perhaps this is a common problem. Should the part be removed and examined to determine the problem, or is it common for motor to fail, flap to seize, sensor to give a faulty reading ?

any advice will be great, obviously I will visit my mechanic again, but your advice is most appreciated. If you must replace a particular part and you have any guide to price then that would help too

cheers

Paul

The intake flap motor is a fairly common fault, a few more details on your car may help such as engine code.

The motor is part of the throttle body assembly that bolts onto the manifold. You would first need to check the wiring and fuses for the motor are ok, check the motor isn't seized etc. if all looks ok it will probably want a replacement motor.

Thanks, I'll visit the mechanic again. Doe look like replacement bits required

Bit of a shame really, thought these cars were reliable ?

45,000 is no mileage for problems like this

...... I should have bought a Honda ;)
