What next? Levitation?

Was dragged to the local garden centre this afternoon, on the conditions that

a, we took the furby instead of the van and

b, we went the long way round via some nice B roads ;)

As I'm a bit of a car park paranoiac, especialy where dimwits are likely to be loading large items, I parked up the empty far end, facing up a small slope.

Just as well really, when we returned some 40 mins later it had managed to "roll back" by about 20 feet

Unusual for me to not fully apply hand brake (having a 30 degree driveway at home) thinks I, giving it a shove to see what happens. Nothing, solid as a rock. And hand brake is all the way up, no more clicks to be had.

Half expecting this to develop into some Beadlesque hidden camera thing I casually glance around for suspicious characters, drunken rugbyists and the like then load up and drive off.

As we left we spotted "CCTV in use" signs, I'm half tempted to go back and ask for a dekko at the tapes...

This has happened to at least one other member. Were the brakes relatively hot when you parked?

Might be worth it? Was it on quite a slope?

I've noticed my car roll back on slopes (when I'm driving though ;)) so am pretty pre-occupied when I park up, with leaving the car in 1st gear... even on the flat. :o

Its become habit to start the car with the clutch dipped leaving it in gear too. :D

I start my furbie with the clutch pedel depresed wether in gear or not. Is this the correct way to start the car or is it feet of every thing apart from the trottle?

The Owner's Manual recommends that the clutch pedal is depressed when starting the engine so that the starter only has to crank the engine. Doing so also avoids the embarrassment of the car suddenly launching itself forwards or backwards if it has been left in gear. :(

Cheers........will continue to start car as normal

Entirely possible considering the route I took ;)

More used to the things sticking after leaving it standing for a couple of days, can make quite a crack when they free off

Happened to mine too. Parked it on my parents drive shortly after getting the car, handbrake on but out of gear. Went back out and it was now down at the bottom of the drive

Now I always park it in-gear, just in case :)

It's good practice to start the engine with the clutch depressed as this means the starter motor has fewer components to drive in order to turn the engine over.

I just start with the clutch depressed as the PD engine doesn't seem to need any throttle at start up :D
