Bloody Typical......................

Featured Replies

Over the last few months my VRS has had issues with its heater. It works, but it will only work on full hot or full cold. So your either frozen or baked. Everything pointed towards the heater flaps motor having a mind of their own. So after getting a new one off ebay for £27 - I thought i'd spend enough time on the car this afternoon to get things stripped down and put back together. Managed to do things pretty quickly as i'd taken the passenger side seat out and the glovebox, managed to get my hand up, replaced the flap motor within a few minutes - tested it before putting things back together. Its still doing the same - it now seems like its the heater controller dial. So i've order a new one! But that isnt the total arse of the day. Putting the p/s seat back in I managed to cross thread one of the bolts and trying to remove it I managed to mince the spline! So it wouldn't come out - after 2 hrs we managed to give up trying to unscrew it and just took the dremel to it. Got the seat back out and got the thread of the bolts out - took the captive nut out, cleaned the thread and replaced it. Got it all put back together - now totalling 4 hrs since I started!

Is annoying when you break something else trying to fix another thing! been there, done that!

More likely the heater control resistor!

Under pass glovebox, part is about £90

The fan works fine. Never been a problem with that. Its definately related to the heater flaps or motor control. I was lying under the dash turning the controller and it doesnt move until the control knob is either at the full hot position or the full cold position. If you have it half way (say 22) then nothing happens at all!

Where is this resistor you mentioned? Is it the fan one? Or do we thing its the control unit??

Strange, I've just fitted underseat storage boxes ( a present from Fabia owning son & daughter-in-law ) to my Fabia 2 and managed to cross thread a seat bolt too. As I've had over 40 years in the trade starting as an apprentice, I felt a bit foolish as well! Bought a tap and cleaned up the thread to sort it out yesterday.

Murphy's law often spoils a straightforward job. Just don't rush and try to have the correct tools and enjoy the satisfaction that comes from doing it yourself, job properly done and less expenditure than a garage.

Also you understand your car better so can 'get out of trouble' at the roadside when problems occur, thankfully a reliable Skoda means not too often!

I am pretty certain you need to calibrate the motor flap with vagcom for it to work properly.

Have a go at that first buddy, and let us know how u get on.

ps can u pls give me the ebay link for the motorflap, because I need to do the same with my fabia

This thread is reminiscent of the nature of nearly every job I do on my car heh! Fix one break one.

I changed the two outer CV boots on my car the other day. And managed to puncture on of the end caps on the gearbox end on the short shaft! Cheap part but was a faff as it took two days to come :dull:

Just type in Fabia Heater into ebay and a few pop up - 2nd hand ones start at £20, new ones from £50. Someone had a look at my VRS with vag com, the coding on it is so early that some of the option arent there on the system to adjust or recalibrate the heater flaps! I've order the panle it should be here later in the week. If that doesnt sort it them I may have to take it to skoda!
