Hey guys/girls

Im rick, i am 19 and i will be looking to buy a mk1 octy vrs around march/april time, so i tought i would join the forum and get the low down on the VAG scene.

It will be my first german car.

Ive owned two french cars, a saxo 1.1 when i passed my test which got scrapped after 6 months.

I drive a mk2 VTR and have done since 2009(will become my trackday toy when the VRS comes) :)

I want a Silver VRS and have a few ideas in mind modification wise but nothing major, im sure it will be plenty fast enough for me after driving a saxo.

I will mainly just be looking to stiffen it up, get it handling and stopping spot on and just enjoy it.

So any tips on any suspension/brake mods that will be of use to me will be appreciated :)

Thanks.

Golf R32 FARB and Neuspeed 28 mm RARB will transform the handling. Standard brakes are fine you may want to go for an upgrade on the pads. Ferodo DS2500 are excellent. Then just enjoy. Welcome.

Rear anti roll bar first off then coilovers handling is first priority and a remap is worth it as well, styling keep it understated haha.

Wheres the best place for this kind of stuff for the skodas? i was planning on getting the RARB :)

what coilovers would you recomend for general/slighlty spirited road use?

weitec hicon GT its what most people have on this forum and they handle very well

if your coming from a saxo i would suggest you drivve it for a few months before you make your mind up on mods for the car asit will be fast in comparison to what you had and will stop well

you have to remeber it will never handle like a saxo unless you spend thousands due to the nature of the car size weight etc etc

As Clive said, get a feel for it first. You might find at 19 the insurance is dear and modifying it might make it even higher.

Welcome fella!

I got my VRS when i was 21 and it was expensive to insure then! But saying that mine already has a remap, induction, exhaust, ARBs and things insurance companies won't like.

I know at 19 insuring a Golf with a tiny engine in was expensive, so just make sure that you get insurance quotes worked out exactly first!

yeha i know what you mean mate. thats why im using the saxo as a track toy and not the skoda.

well last june i paid just over £1000 for the year on the saxo vtr TPFT with 1 year no claims, which is cheap compared to some people my age. over on saxperience(saxo forum i use)there are 18/19 year olds struggling to insure a a 1.4 saxo furio for under 3k which is ridiculous.

im rather lucky with the area i live, as its in the hills and my house is on its own in the middle of a field :giggle:

ive been getting quotes for a mk1 octy VRS around £1700, and the mk1 octy 1.9tdi classic/ambient is approx £980.

which i think are both cracking prices for my age and car choice. ive been putting 2 years NCB as i will have come june when i will have the policy to start.

i just cant decide which to get.

love the looks of the VRS but for cheaper running costs and better mpg the diesel is niggling at me.

also bearing in mind it will occasionaly be towing the saxo on a trailor the diesel would obvs be better, but a vrs would tow it no problem wouldnt it? :)

Hi mate, I come from sax-P too.. my name on there was lew_c

When I first got the vRS and was 19 years old with 1 years NCB I paid £3000 with brentacre on their modded policy

this year with 2 years NCB I'm with sky insurance (a site sponsor, who use the same broker as brentacre did but were just cheaper) and that cost £1890

My saxo VTR was quite quick a real fast road toy, on Kent PT40 cams, absolutely decked, janspeed 4-2-1 mani, decat straight through exhaust, ported and polished was a cracking car but has literally nothing on the octavia.

so the quotes im getting are pretty good then to be fair.

saxo sounded pretty mean.

ive got heatwrapped raceland 4-1 decat manifold, spersprint 2" race system.

Custom k&n intake

lowered 40mm on spax kit

stripped inside just front seats and dash.

polly bush lower gearbox mount

and 266mm front brake conversion with master cylinder from 406 coupe, brakes are incredible haha.

its just like a go kart.

my girlfriends sisters boyfriend has got a mk1 octy vrs, been out in it a few times and its so quick, but so smooth at the same time, where as the saxo, although it handles great is very bumpy and tinny. all good fun tho lol.

cant wait to get my skoda now, few more months :)

haha mate i get mine next Tuesday on my 21st haha i cant wait. my insurance goes down to 900 quid for it at 21 instead of 1800

damn. wish i was turning 21 in june not 20 haha. mine would probably be around that :'(

haha to be honest mate if you can afford the insurance at 19/20 good on you its the one thing that stopped me getting a vrs sooner, my advice as well is if you want to do some mods save up the money for what you would like but leave doing them for about a month after owning the car unless its audio and styling otherwise you wont get a feel for the car at all

yeah i wont be doing anything straight away.

maybe a new set of wheels, i quite like the old style rs4 wheels, think the same/similar to the audi tt old style wheels.

18" 9 spoke ones, really want some when i get the car.

other than that thats probably all i will do.

if i do decide to do more mods, all it will be is lower it/coilovers and maybe RARB from what ive read thats all you need.

really excited now and ive got about 3/4 months before ill be ready to buy one. might stop coming on here till then tbh haha :giggle:

lol your exited ive got 7 days to wait haha
