Creaky suspension

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My girlfriend has a mk1 fabia 1.4 and since i've been driving it i've noticed a creaking fromt he front suspension and when braking to a halt im noticing slight movement, Now straight away i thought bushes and kwik fit said the same when i took it for new tyres but my question is roughly what could this cost and are there many parts to this and are the standard skoda bushes a load of shi*e.

Cheers in advance for any help,

Ive literally just had this on my vrs was making a squeek when braking, and was the bush on the back of the wishbone, just fell out when they took the arm off, hope this helps.

Thanks matey, what did this cost you to get fixed? im guessing the labour is what costs and not the part!

Don't know about yours but the vRS parts are around £20 and 1 - 2 hours labour.

I hope this gives a good enuf indication on price.

Ok so just been told i need the lower arm assembly's on both sides replaced as you cant just replace the bushes or somewhat...does this sound correct? i got quoted £484 for them to be replaced and tracking sound fair?!

You're not supposed to be able to replace the lower arm front bush...but they never seem to wear out very often. Although you can get aftermarket bushes to replace them. The lower arm rear bush, often referred to as tge console bush is easily replaced. In any event 4hundr ed odd quid seems a lot and replacing the whole arms shouldn't be necessary.

Decided to get a second opinion form my local skoda garage and i only need the console bushes replaced which is costing £230 rather than £484 from kwikfit to replace half the suspension it seemed!! total ripoff merchants! cheers for all the help guys!

Console bushes cost £20 and the rest must be labour I take for the £230 they r doing the wheel alignment ? If not £230 seems abit steep .

£230 is extortionate. Source the parts yourself and get an independent to sort it for you.

For the £230 you could buy the powerflex console bushes, a good trolley jack, set of axle stands, new bolts (three for the balljoint to wishbone and the tri-nut plate, and the main front pivot bolt) each side, and the sockets to do it!!!........ :giggle:

I'd guess that KwikFit would be replacing the consoles not the TCA as its in the console and dummies like most KwikFit places will have heard that these consoles can crack open if your rough with them (and some of them would be).

Are they that easy to do then???

They wanted to replace the whole lower arm assembly on both sides...was gonna be 77 quid each then 300 quid labour!

Anyone know any good independent garages in the surrey/middlesex area?

Yeah alignment is included mate....At least i think so! :S

There are guides in the tech section...usually to replace the console bush with the "cupra" version but the Powerflex one is the easiest one to fit back in as it does not require and tools etc as just a push fit by hand!

It is easy.......but if you don't do much mechanicing then it will be daunting so don't do it! If you get a Haynes manual for the car you will see the work involved!..... B)
