Almost died Saturday night :-( anyone heard of week alloys?

I was expecting more damage on the body work than that. Looks like it could be fixed (whether you still want it is another story.). That wheel is f*cked tho.

Yea tbh the car doesn't look all that bad considering it went down the road in its side, on closer examination one of the people at the work shop found that where part of the wheel split was fractured a while ago because of corrosion etc what happen was (I think as a was a bit of a crazy blur) front wheel hit a stone or small pot hole which instantly broke up the wheel this veered me left clipping hedge putting me into a Spin, the car then went up the hedge backwards chucking in onto it's side, something then dug in throwing it back up Ito it's wheels. Damage is as followed = front passenger light, front & rear bumpers, quarter panels, doors, rear driver quarter panel, tailgate, both rear lights, new wheel, new suspension assembly as that's twisted, exhaust back box, new windscreen, passenger roof pillar that's just a visual check :/

I think all 4 wheels are coming off my VRS and getting a close inspection! I would also advise Skoda UK about this to see if they are willing to do anything for you.

Personally I think something breaking in the steering linkage may have caused this, from the "suddenly veered off" comment - but we're not going to know for definite unless a specialist examines the car.

Most insurers will fully examine a hot hatch after write off.

They'll also be hunting for undeclared mods so they don't have to pay out.

Holy mother of jesus that's insane. Main thing is that your ok, but I'd deffo raise the issue with skoda UK as for an SE 4-5years old that's unacceptable IMO

My car just got that little bit more rare B)

Looks to me like the wheel got damaged in the accident by the scuffs on it. If there was an issue it'd have come to light by now I'd have thought. Glad your ok though, shows how solid they are when you see them after a accident.

Looks to me like it shattered on impact, seen it happen a few times when boy racers lose it and hit a kurb. Not sure the wheel caused the accident, but I am sure Skoda will look into this and your insurance will pay out some money towards a new car.

Can you please be a little more explicit about where this fracture was and thus how we can check out our cars' wheels? Can it be seen on close inspection from "outside" or is it a "wheel off" exercise?

Yea I am staying rather possitive and joking it off best I can think a Toyota hilux next - something close to indistructible aha, yea got some pictures but dunno how to post them on here

You'd be surprised, a mate has a Nissan Navara, and it's been recalled for possible wheel fractures.

Glad your ok mate. Everytime i go to scrape yard I always see 4-5 different cars where the wheels have snaped like yours. last one was a 2006 m3.

When I went to get my MP3 player and amp etc out of my Citroen after the write off, one of the pound guys wanted to show me something. Over we wandered to AN Other car with major driver's side windscreen and roof damage. Cue him pointing at "brown stuff" all over the roof lining. "Human blood" he mentioned... Painted a picture to me of the driver's head exploding...

Glad the OP is in one piece.

Had your alloys powdercoated recently?

Sorry to raise an old topic but did anything come to light regarding stress wheel failure's?I've just had a crash this evening in my car. Was on a newly tarmac'd motorway and hit standing water on it and back end came round. The front end has hit the barrier as did the back end, but upon exiting the car the drivers front wheel has came apart from the rim just as the OP's wheel has done but without hitting anything

Sorry to hear about your smack mate. I hope all the people involved were unhurt.

It was just myself fella which was rather lucky, was in the outside lane of a 2 lane section and just missed the car on the inside the guy behind me said. The car hit square into the nearside barrier and bounced out and hit the central reservation and sat sideways in the road. Car I think is going to be a write off, it's even took the sump out some how....

Unfortunately it sounds like the accident was caused by aquaplaning not a wheel fracture. A wheel if subjected to a stress, such as hitting a kerb, is going to fracture. The fracture is likely to occur at the weakest point hence the potential similarity of breakage zone.
