vRS LPG conversions?

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,

newbie to Skoda's and my first post in this section,

But . . . . . .

I am looking at Octi vRs's and i have seen a few cars for sale with LPG conversions. (I don't think i have ever seen so many sporty saloons with them fitted, and they keep cropping up).

Sounds like a perfect vehicle - mix of performance and MPG at the flick of a switch but there has to be a catch!!

does anyone have any experience with them, and could possibly give any advice?

thanks in advance

Troy.

karl on here has an lpg'd vehicle that he loves. As with anything its gotta be a good kit fitted properly, i am sure he will see this and post and reply, if not pm him(karlbar2k),

a recent thread about lpg

Thanks for the link, just what I was looking for.

One of the cars I am looking at is ex yorkshire police, so I should think that the kit was done to a good standard.

Another is private and I haven't looked into thy one yet.

I've just been given a new post at work and it'll need me to drive 60mile a day, and I really don't want a diesel. and it's only for 6 months.

I'll buzz through that link on my lunch.

Mines LPG converted - was done when the car was quite new (now 127k)

Runs better on gas in all honesty - had the system serviced last year for £70, sorted a couple of small leaks when they where on

I get 300 miles on about £35 worth of gas

Mines the egas sysytem

Thanks for the link, just what I was looking for.

no probs Troy, i would have one for sure!

Has anyone got any pictures of their fitted LPG system on a VRS? i.e under the bonnet and where the tank is fitted.

Wanting do get mine done this year, maybe even fit it myself and then get it certified.

Had the wifes PT Cruiser 2.4 converted last year, gone from the equivalent of 17 to 34 to the gallon, she loves it.

Thanks for the replies.

So I have checked with my insurer and it'll cost me £130 more to insure an LpG vehicle - kinda eats into the saving.

Plus the extra cost of servicing.

How does it effect the performance?

What's the process for switching between fuels - is it just literally flicking a switch?

- ill find out today what kit it has fitted.

Get back onto them as it should cost no more unless they are going to cover the cost of the system for a total loss.

factor£75-100 for this so not too bad

you honestly wont be able to tell.

all modern systems start on petrol till the reach temp (usually a mile at most) then they auto switch to gas on liftoff when changing gear etc so you wont feel it. you also have a switch so you can force it to go back to petrol if required.

I have had a Toyota Previa with an older style system that did have flakey issues that I learned to live with (it iked to stall now and then. HOWEVER, the E-Gas system on the 1.8T is very much fit and forget. The 1.8T is rated one of the best engines on LPG but you do need to make sure the vapouriser has enough headroom. I.E. if the engine is stock at 150-180 then a 210 vapouriser is OK but if you want to Mod then get a stronger vapouriser. Any good fitter will know all this and will be prepared to talk to you about what is involved. I dont have a flash lube kit on mine either, instead I have an enrichment block in the tank that lubricates the valves when running on petrol at the start of the day and is good for 100k+ (at which time I just get another one on the service £20ish iirc)

mine is a 4x4 so on an economy run at steady indicated 60 I see 40+ on the trip, on a high speed run at an indicated 80-85 I still get 32-35, drive like a tool and I struggle to get it under 25. which when I am paying 66.36PPL means that at worst I am getting 45MPG equivalent but I seem to average 55 over the last 9 months

Got LPG on 02 4x4 estate and it's great. My tank is the the spare wheel well, and overall it's a pretty neat install. I do have a bit of corrosion coming around the filler point on the rear wing, so you might want to have a good look at that. From what I've read recently, you can remap with much higher boost levels on LPG as it's higher octane and the knock sensors don't affect it until higher levels of boost. I don't get as much mileage as Karl, but in fainess it probably needs a service. Out of curiosity, what plugs does everyone use for gas, and what gap do you set them at?

Cheers 352

I have Landi Renzo system installed 4 years ago, no problem since. Gas injectors are good up to 45kW per injector, boost on LPG is roughly 0.1bar more than on petrol also consumption is 15% more than on petrol.

I have NGK BKR7e gap-ed to 0.71mm, i change it every 15-20000 km.
