Skoda Mk1 Octavia Race Diagnostics Gauge

Featured Replies

Hello :hi: Well as some of you know I went to Demon Tweeks yesterday to get my brakes fitted, (still waiting for them to bed in so no verdict yet) well as you would guess I had some time to kill so I started looking at boost gauges. I wanted something discrete, but they didn't have anything the sales man there told me about ones he has seen that will plug in to the OBD 2 port. Well that got me looking in the early hours of this morning I have searched forums and searched websites, I am aware the some members on the site had these fitted back in 2008/09 and at the time where very happy but now its 2012 how do you still rate them?

I really like the idea of this, but want it to be quite accurate I cant quite work out if there every was a version 2 released as some people where asking for a bigger screen.

So if you wouldn't mind giving me any updates as to your findings it would be greatly appreciated!! Is this the best place to buy from :$$$: ? http://www.swgmotorsport.com/asps/ShowDetails.asp?id=228 or would you say awesome GTI?

Thanks

Theres actually an app you can buy for your phone that does it then you pay £50ish for a bluetooth OBD connector. Better way in my eyes

 Clearly you haven't seen my phone  I could knock someone out with it :giggle: I keep meaning to get around to buying a new one but don`t, its something that does not bother me. But thanks for the advice, and really does sound like I need to move with the time on the mobile front. Thanks though for the tip off, suppose I could buy a used iphone and Bluetooth thingy and save money? but I do like the ides of it being in the car

That looks quite smart

That`s what I thought, it all seems good to go, it my Birthday soon :giggle: No socks for me this year!!!! B)Unless someone comes out with a shocker about this unit.

Do you know what that app is called? might look into that one

jamie (chickeneyebrow) had a liquid gauge iirc, pretty cool gadget!

I'm using Torque for android. Not sure if it's available for piephone as well.

I had the Liquid Gauge in my VRS which is now owned by Dom500 on here. I think it cost £175 but it was an awesome bit of kit. Paid for itself in terms of diagnosing faults and I was able to road dyno a few members cars (Suze, Berylschiefpilot, Nickbes) The dyno plotting was not 100% accurate as it used the MAF figure at WOT divided by 0.8 or something to get the bhp but it was within a few bhp of what my car did on the Impossible Performance and AMD dynos

GarryC borrowed it for a month and made me a brushed aluminium holder for it that fit into the ashtray but that's not ideal for looking at things like the boost gauge you're better off mounting it in the drivers air vent.

I've had the Liquid Gauge for a few months - very fun bit of kit to track your numbers & also do some quick fault finding.

Got mine fitted in my RH vent & looks pretty good.

That looks sweet!! I really like that. I am glad to hear everyone`s happy with the kit as I really want to install one SOON!!!!! ;)

Fancy this as well

This was my one, not the most convenient position if you want to watch the gauge though

I guess your right that could cause a problem being low down. Looks good though!! I think I will go with the air vent on the drivers side. Well I am glad nobody has said there are poo. I will be putting in my formal written Birthday request to night so there is no confusion and will hopefully stop the arrival of any more socks!! :giggle::rofl:

As Jamie has said, I now have it in my car and although it is not in the most convient place it is a very useful tool would quite like the vent pod though, where did you get it from if you dont mind me asking?

How about a liquid gauge I seem to recall that name being banded about a while ago. can't remember if that was a positive thing or not....

This is the same thing i believe Race diagnostics make them and sell to SWG who supply with a vent or separate. Not sure tey are worth the £200 though. Although I like them
