Mine come on whether rear screen is on or not. But im sure they have a timer for how long they stay on, which is probably set via vagcom

Please can I reiterate the situation:

1. The mirrors work entirely independently of the HRW.

2. Moving the knob in any direction whilst on the central "heater" setting has no effect.

3. The settings differ between early and late cars. The earlier ones had an "L/R" setting where both mirrors changed (*), whereas the later ones more logically have just an "L". But in either case the heating's only on at the middle setting.

* - I can only deduce that this was to make reversing easier; drop both mirrors at the same time?
