France bans Sat Navs with camera alerts

Featured Replies

Original article is from the Motorcycle News site, reputable. Also found This on the Garmin site. Consulate website probably just slow to update or they a percentage of the fines any UK drivers get hit with.

Thanks for that, I know our usual route to Dijon, so I'll leave the satnav in the glovebox

Sounds like an opportunity for French graffiti artists to start spraying warnings on the roads. Will they also ban the flashing of headlights by drivers to warn others of radar traps? As with most poorly thought out legislation there will be numerous work arounds and money making opportunities for human rights lawyers.

This is a useful link from Garmin:

The Garmin advice I've read seems incorrect or odd so far.

For example:-

'With immediate effect it has become illegal for anyone travelling in France to have any speed camera warnings on any device across the entire territory of France.'

'Any speed warnings'-even UK only speed warnings?

'On any device-' even when switched off or/not being used?

Just spotted this article in the bike press which I thought would be of interest. Not sure how they will check or enforce but best to be aware.

now..............we saw lots of stupid and ignorant cases going to the European Court of Human Rights - Islamic militants who condemn everything about the UK cannot be deported etc etc. So how the heck do the French get away with this!!!! Surely I have a right to protect my driving licence :dull:

You certainly do; it's called using your eyes and reading the road signs.

Don't forget actually staying at or under the limit.
