Hello all.

I'm looking to buy a new (used) car next month.

I've got my heart set on an Octavia VRS diesel, I originally planned to get a quite new low mileage car but my circumstances have changed ( another kid on the way)so I've opted to budget myself this time round untill I've got other things sorted i.e possibly moving house.

I've got around 6 grand and after looking around I've no idea as to what age, mileage etc I should be looking at trying to get as most of the sellers are trade and there prices vary by quite a bit?

Also is it worth opting for one at this price or should I hang fire and get something else to tide me over, I do about 900 miles a month?

Last but not least I've noticed there's a for sale section, if after hopefully finding out what I should be looking for would it be worth sticking a wanted post in there?

Sorry for the list of questions but I'm getting close now to my family expanding and need to get my finger out finding a car.

Hello Tommo and welcome along. Do you need something the size of the Octavia or would a Fabia be suitable? Octy diesels hold their value quite well and for £6k you should be able find a darned fine Mk1 Fabia vRS.

You're doing about the same mileage as me and many will tell you that perhaps you'd be better looking at petrol all I say is drive both versions and then decide for yourself, I much prefer the way the diesel drives hence my choice.
