Me and a friend tried to keep up with Hannu in that s1 when he was travelling between stages on the last RAC it competed on , we were in a tuned Opel Manta which was quick for its day , but Hannu drove like he was still in stage and that car had AWESOME acceleration , he must have laughed his socks off.

Amazing collection and what a guy

Them were the days - remembering being buzzed by McRae, Burns, Makkinen et al on the M1 once - truly awesome sight to see 20+ WRC cars flying up the motorway between stages like Millbrook, Chatsworth etc

What do we get now - a poorly managed championship, poor TV coverage, lack of manufacturers and shortened mickey mouse rallies.

Yes i feel sorry for the modern fan as they have missed out on rallyings best era . We used to follow the RAC around and get to every 3rd or 4th stage ,had great fun in convoys racing between stages and watching privateers and clubmen battling against works teams in cars that varied from Trabants to fire breathing group B supercars , the craik betwen fans in stage and in the pubs where we all snatched a meal was brilliant, now all they get is 1 antiseptic stage at great financial cost with a dozen cars all the same - mega boring

Even if you won the lottery you would struggle to get a collection that good, ah well worth another £1 to try and get my ultimate garage.
