rear washer

Featured Replies

hello all

I've got a 51 plate vRS hatch I've had since october so its still fairly new to me. the rear washer doesn't work. I'm sure it did when i first got it. I've checked the pump it does work on both front and rear but nothing comes out of the jet. theres no water in the boot its bone dry i can't see any signs in the roof lining or any coming from under the car.

where does the pipework run?

are there any one way valves that could be blocked?

many thanks

chris

Try taking the pipe off the back of the wiper unit and press the wash and see if water comes out, if it does then the jet itself is blocked and you'll need to clean it out with boiling water, a pin etc. If no water directly from the pipe then there's a blockage somewhere else in the system. The later models had a redesigned rear washer jet that doesn't block as easily.

The pipe runs down the left hand side of the car under the plastic trim and up over the rear wheel arch.

iirc has several joins in the pipe which can leak/break - although above is most likely place to fail.

so it runs down where you would put your amp cables inside the car? so it should be quite easy to find and check the pipe then

Yep, thats where is goes. Little black pipe

the other place not mentioned is inside the hatch itself, you need to take off the inner plastic cover to get to it, check the pipe is connected there to the wiper mechanism itself.

As suggested there are numerous joins, easiest to access is under the moulded carpet trim in the boot on the near side. If you still have the CD changer installed, you'll need to remove this from it's bracket first. Once you can fold the carpet moulding away from the wheel arch intrusion, you should be able to identify the tube along with two wiring looms. The tube and wiring go upwards behind the C pillar trim to the rubber flexi thing that feeds wiring into the bootlid by the hinge on the roof line.

I'd suggest you unconnected the washer tube back down by the wheel arch before it disappears upwards. Then get a body to try the washer action while you watch.

If water comes out here, maybe your tube has come loose inside the bootlid (most frequently the case) but because water is then pooling in the bottom of the bootlid and coming out the drain holes, your boot carpet won't be getting wet. Plastic moulding on boot lid comes off with a good yank but is a swine to get back on!!! Sitting inside the boot with the lid pulled down seems the best solution....

Mine was leaking from the pump it's self, the pipe came off just look for a pool of washer fluid lol
