I've got an itch...suspension

Featured Replies

Hi

Now i promised myself i wouldnt do anything to this car that wasnt required, now if something needs replacing then that is justified for me to upgrade it as its a better long term solution....right? :)

Ive had 2 new tyres put on,4 wheel alignment done, rear suspension sounds creaky sometimes over speedbumps which ive read is common and there doesnt seem to be a solution for that

The car does wobble now and again, mid to high speeds is fine, its just sometimes and im thinking its possible the bushes or springs/dampers?

Now what are the main bushes that normally have most wear and tear, whats the whiteline anti lift kit(replacement for rear bushes or something else?),complete poly bush kits available cheap or too expensive?

And also for springs and dampers,im thinking get standard shocks with H&R springs for a 30mm drop and still have the comfort

Budget is £500 including labour.........too optimistic?

Car has 106k, 2007 octy vrs tdi 170

Thank You in advance (why did i go to that north west meet...this is getting expensive and ive had the car a week)

If you go for the H&Rs let us know how you find them. I'm thinking of changing my Eibach/Koni FSD set up for H&Rs ('cos they're progressive not linear) and (whisper it) Ohlins dampers.

Not sure if it helps but I've just put the Eibach Pro Kit springs on my VRS Estate and it's absolutely transformed the ride, obviously the Dampers are important but just sitting that bit lower and stiffer has made it such a nice drive, highly recommended as a cheap / easy modification to the standard setup.

Koni top adjustable dampers with the original springs was a beautifully comfortable & composed ride which worked a treat in my Golf G60, so if I need to change mine if it goes in my octy, that's definitely the route i'd be going down.

my brothers got the H&R in his golf mk5 with standard sport springs and is beautiful, my first passat had standard shocks with koni springs which were good, the second passat had eibach dampers and springs and was harsh but handled ace

is the whiteline anti lift kit for the rears a replacement for the rear bushes?

As far as I know, the WALK is for the front (only), the Whiteline kit for the rear is a revised ARB.

so when going with H&R or Eibach springs - say 30mm drop - is it recommended to change the shocks as well?

or can i get away with just the factory shocks, and not get a harsh bumpy ride?

if required, i hear bilstein b6 shocks r good for the octavia.

You can use the same shocks but for what its worth,it is recommended to change shocks aswell especially when youve put a bit of miles on them

Whats a RARB and ARB? anything to do with bushes or is it an extra thing?

JR RS - the eibachs only lower the skoda about 20mm which should be fine with OE shocks (in fact, these are an official accessory so tested/approved with the OE dampers by skoda) but for anything lower than that you really should be looking at matched dampers.

rsbst - any info on the Ohlins you're looking at? Not heard of anyone fitting these on an Octavia? More info please!?

Wow,never seen a lowering kit with only 20mm,are they comfy?

Anyone got pics of an octy with that kit on?

Thanks

Do a search - there have been lots of pics posted of cars on eibachs.

I have some before/after pics of the 20mm accessory eibachs on my blog.

Ride quality will depend on what dampers you fit them with.

Which part of Manchester are you in? If you want a demo of Eibach springs and Koni FSD dampers, let me know.

ARB - anti-roll bar. RARB, or R-ARB is referring to the one on the back. It's quite common for people to uprate the rear bar to something thicker, which can help handling. There are also ARB kits available that replace both. Bear in mind that if you fit a thicker bar at the front, you generally induce more understeer. I run a std front ARB, with Autotech 25mm 3-way adjustable rear ARB, set to the middle setting.

The WALK or Whiteline Anti-Lift kit is for the front suspension setup and revises the suspension geometry for extra grip and reduced understeer. As such you'd be better off fitting this at the same time if you are interested in it, as you can then get the suspension setup once. The caster angle is increased by 0.5 deg. All the info you need is here:

Hope this helps.

i wouldnt bother with poly bushes,it would make the car ride far too hard for the conditions or the roads as this time of year,

i agree with most people on here saying the eibach springs are the way to go,ive had them on my octy for around 4 months now,i just have to slow more for speed bumps as they are 20-30% stiffer

I think the whiteline anti lift kit is a must, and as for the shicks and dampers,im gonna have a look into these ap dampers and springs, they look value for money

Yeah the WALK makes a massive difference and for the money the AP springs and shocks are a great option.

Give me a shout if we can be any help and I'm sure we'll be able to get the best deal for you.

Im considering the A&P comfort springs and shocks, as Ive never heard of A&P how does their quailty compare to standard set up?

Do you mean AP? If so then the quality should be fine as these are a KW brand. I'm assuming by the way that you mean build quality rather than ride quality?

I find that both are important :D

Yes, I mean AP and Im asking if the quality of the componenets and ride quality are superior than the stock set up. My Oct 2 has reached 100k and am going to throw some money at it as I have a target of 200k mile covered. As I do high mileage I thought the AP 'comfort' set up may be the way to go....

At 100k your stock suspension is going to be pretty shagged - so i'd expect AP's to be better quality for both ride and manufacture but I don't have first hand experience of these. I'm not aware of anyone on this forum having run these but i might be wrong.
