Lpt For 74 Kw Octavia 1.6

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just wanted to whether this can be done without changing much of the engine parts (pistons, etc etc) . Would like to increase tourque. just a tad bit to keep up (without flooring the accelerator) with the flood of civics and corollas in my country. :(

Wonder if this can be diy-ed? Will the ECU mess up the increase air flow? Need the hard-core experts advise. thanks:cheers:

find a crashed 1.8t and take the engine out.. it will be less hassle....

I don't think there's huge amount can be done to the 1.6. Chipping will gain you little (about

8bhp increase).

Changing your air intake and exhaust will have similarly small improvements.

Replacing the cams could be effective, but might affect the driveability of the car, and does involve

a fair bit of engine fiddling.

Turbo converson - would be good, but won't be cheap!

Replacing the engine would probably be the cheapest solution unfortunately...

so rob you putting first reserve on mine after i roll it on track?

Nope...if I'd wanted a 1.8T I would've got a 1.8T! :p

Would've had to sell it by now because of the insurance though...

Unfortunately in my country it's illegal to change the engine. I think you can only do mod to the top of the engine, i.e. the block with the serial number cannot be changed.:(

That's why I was wondering if there is a DYI, kinda thingy u can add to the intake as that is fair game. Just to squeeze more air into the cylinders.

Not as far as I know.

Probably the easiest way would be weight-saving - remove spare wheel, rear seats, and basically

anything you don't use. Would be the most cost-effective way...

There are things you can do but it would be "old skool" tuning; free flow the head, larger inlet valves, fast road cams etc.

Check out the TSR web site although they only do exchange so you 'd have to work something out with them.

Cheers.

Adrian.
