What the heck happened to the turbo?

Looks like some the compressor had a fight with a foreign object and the compressor lost

oil seal failure, the shaft has mega play so thats where the clipped blades come from moving about inside the housing, must of made abit of a racket, ive drained about half a litre of oil just out the cat lol, should smoke nicely for a while untill it burns off the rest in the exhaust

gonna clean it all up and refit this arvo, also my forge blanking plug arrived for the side of the block, so ill fit that and reattach the water hose you have to remove to get at it. Oh and fitted a gold tdi battery tray, my yellow top may be slightly too tall so i need to see if i can shut the bonnet with it in, otherwise might have to get a normal bigger size battery :(

where have you ordered the turbo from how much it cost etc etc

Jeez, you don't hang about! :giggle:

Nice work!

You might want to wipe off a few mm of sealant off the inside edge of the sump there, IIRC if there's too much sealant it leaks into the sump when you tighten it and that's whats caused a lot of the oil pickup problems on 1.8Ts in the past.

I only left around 12, your quick!!

Battery cover looks much better, was there no sealant on the sump before?

yeah there was had to get a stanley blade out and get it off, it hasnt been off before though as it was still factory sealant on it, not caked on like most places do
