Purchasing a new Fabia

Nice selection. What's the 3rd headrest for though ?

Honestly (and this goes for any car) when was the last time there was 3 people in the back and the middle guy said "wow, this headrest is so comfortable" emoticon-0143-smirk.gif

I've had the car full!!!..........not for comfort.....for whiplash prevention.....no headrest the head will snap back into the space between the other headrests!!!...... B)

Hello Friends,

I'm in the lucky position of having a car to order that is already on the way to the dealer. So I've yet to experience other people's experience of waiting 3-6 months for a new car! I've never had that bad luck. Every new Fiat I've bought, was already in the showroom, unless I required a different colour and had to wait a week or two.

Anyway, I'm very disappointed with the fact that the 3rd headrest is a factory fitted option - what's that all about? I realise that the Fabia may not quite match a Volvo; but surely Skoda care just a little bit about safety? Granted, my Fabia may not be fully loaded every day of the week. But in a few weeks time, our first grandchild is born.

What about the sound system? In my current Octavia, I can play a CD full of MP3 songs. Will I be able to play these CDs on the sound system of the Fabia?

Frank. :)

Yes. The swing radio can play mp3 tracks. Its the same unit as in the base model octavia. I got the mdi interface fitted in my fabia with a 32gb USB flash drive which works quite well. Saves having to carry loads of CDs around.

The standard back seat does not have holes for the middle headrest, saving money to make.

The Greenline II comes with the MDI port, get a cable from your local dealer or on-line auction site and you can connect a hard drive, USB stick or iPod to it and play the music on the stereo. I optioned the MDI on my Elegance (not realising I could stream music from my phone) so I could re connect my hard drive with MP3s on.

Good move!

I just got mine yesterday, Anthracite CR 105. Options were Maxidot, heated seats and met paint.

All the other extras are standard spec on my Beemer and having had them....I never use them so I only went for want I need this time.

Great car and the CR 105 engine pulls really well. Bought the car for my wife but she can't get me out of it ;)

You wont be dissapointed!

Hello Friends,

I understand the Fabia radio unit can play MP3s - I get that.

Will it actually play MP3 tracks that have been burned onto a disc? This is what I'd like to know.

I'm an old geezer, who hasn't got an MP3 player thingy!

I too had the 3rd headrest on my Mk1.

Firstly, in the correct raised position, it near completely obscures rear vision, so, most will have it set to it's lowered position and thus it offers basically zero whiplash protection.

From the Swing Manual.

General information for MP3 operation

Requirements for the MP3 data and data carrier

CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW with a capacity of 650 MB and 700 MB.

The CDs must correspond to the ISO 9660 Level 2 standard as well as the Joliet data

system (single and multi-session).

Data names must be no longer than 64 characters.

The list structure is restricted to a depth of 8 list levels.

The name of the artist, the album and the title of the reproduced MP3 data can be

shown as ID3 tag, providing this information is available. The list and data name will be

displayed if there is no ID3 tag.

Playlists are not supported.

WMA data (Windows Media Audio) can also be played even if the copyright is

additionally protected by the DRM procedure (Digital Rights Management). Such

WMA data is not supported by the unit.

Bit rate (data flow per time unit)

The system supports MP3 data with bit rates of 32 to 320 KB/s as well as MP3 data

with variable bit rates.

The indicated playing time data with variable bit rates is not reliable.

Fully aware of that........so you leave it lowered.....then if you have the car full of people and have the "fifth" person just raise it up.........simples!!!! B) .....

.....common sense really...... :dull:

Hello Dempsek,

I suppose the answer is yes!

Hello Friends,

went to the Skoda dealer in Pontypridd and finally paid a deposit a new Fabia Greenline Estate. I believe it drives better than my current Octavia MPI estate.

Can't wait to collect it next Saturday - it's a silver number, and looks very nice. Looking forward to some MPG and zero Road Tax! Woooo-hooooooo!!

I've had some good news too. The build week the dealers gave me has apparently stuck. The build week was confirmed and is being built this week! Not too long now I hope. From what I gather it will be about 2-3 weeks now. Can't wait. Starting to get fed up with walking 40 mins to the train station every morning!

Aeonflame,

I feel for you my friend. Even 3 weeks will soon pass.

This will be my 2nd Skoda, and I've been lucky on both occasions, with not long waiting times.

My current Octavia arrived at the dealer in 4 days. My new Fabia was already in transit, when the dealer ordered it online! As good as Amazon methinks!!

Apparently it's just been dropped off at the dealers! They're going to ring me up this afternoon to arrange a pick up date. Cannot wait now, knowing it's less than 2 miles away from me but I can't drive it yet! Does anyone know how long it usually takes before delivery to dealers and collection?

Depends how busy they are/ how quickley they can PDI it. Should be sometime next week i reckon

Dealership rang earlier, and they've been fantastic. As I'm working long hours all of next week and it's not easy to take any time off, they've arranged for me to pick it up tomorrow lunchtime. Less than 24h to go now!

I picked the car up at lunch today, and I must say so far it's living up to my expectations - though it's just nice to be back on the road! Spent the best part of the afternoon driving 100 miles around the Lake District. I'm sure I'll have more questions soon, but so far I'm a very happy new Skoda owner!
