Tyres protecting your Alloys

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

Have a question and wondered if there are any tyres that you can buy for 17'' Gigaro or Trinity alloys which will protect your alloys from kerbing and scratches. I had original 16'' alloys on my Fabia Sport mk2 and any tyres I bought for those seemed bit wider than my alloys so when parking I actually never scratched or kerbed my wheels. Now I have 17'' Trinity's which I fitted on about 2 weeks ago and already managed to kerb these twice while parking next to my house...:/ I feel like I have to learn how to park the car again so I don't scratch or kerb my new set...

Cheers, Matty

alloy gators are an option if your tyres are still new

My Monte wheels came with Bridgestone tyres that do have a very slight rimguard however I seriously doubt the 3-4mm they stand out would save anything if I misjudged my parking.

You could just not drive into kerbs? Just sayin'...

Heard some good and bad things about those...

Don't really want to spend almost £60.00 for the set where I can actually get my 4 alloys refurbed for £80.00...:) Has anyone used these Alloygators and are these any good...

Cheers, Matty

Didn't know about alloy gators or alloy blades etc and soon as I saw an installation vid I yelled "UGLYYYYY!!!!!!!!"

Just learn to be careful - imo those things look ugly.

Thanks 'Babs'...Never thought about that before, I'll try that, thanks for advice...

Come on...!!! You know it's sometimes not up to me and you can't just leave your car in the middle of the car park or street just because there are kerbs there...

Mate, I drive and park my car in probably the craziest most trafficy city in Europe. This is how we park!

and still I haven't kerbed my wheels. If I can do it so you can, especially in your country where you got much better urban planning.

Just practice and don't rush your moves that is all.

To be fair, I'm very picky about where I park. And I'm one of those that would rather hit the other car that's squeezing through inappropriately, and get them to pay for the damage than having to swerve into a kerb and pay for the damage myself!

I got confused with my old Fabia, mine are actually Continental SportContact 2. They do have a rim protector but as stated its not enough to protect you from a heavy handed kerbing.
