Am I being dim ?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have a facelift Vrs and I am sure my sidelights (top corner of the headlight units) have stopped working.

My driving lights illuminate and dim down when side/headlights are selected but the small bulbs do not light up and I am positive they used to.

I have swapped the bulbs to no avail, I can't find a sidelight specific fuse, any ideas please?

Many thanks

Mac

DLR's are instead of sidelights so you won't have both.

Those bulbs don't do anything on the FL vRS as it uses dimmed DRL for sidelights.

Try switching on only the side lights, without the ignition on.

Sidelight on a FL vRS uses dimmed DRL, the bulbs that are sidelights on other models do nothing the vRS.

Just a thought - are the DRLs switchable on the Octavia?

On my Fabia Monte Carlo you can switch the DRLs off, in which case you would still need the sidelights to work..........or am I being stupid?

If you switch the DRL's off on your monte and then put your side lights on, the DRL's light up but they are dimmer, well that's how it works on a vRS (Fabia) so i assume yours will do the same

I've never actually checked TBH Andy, I was just thinking aloud

I'm sure you'll be right though :)

Yea as said the DRL's when turned to side light become dimmer and are then the side lights. If you have a look under bonnet the side light bulbs you see in headlight units are not even wired up, just there as its a standard part used in all Octavias.

Thanks for the reply all,

looks like I was being fairly dim !!!

On the Octy vRS even if you disable the LED DRL's they are still used for the side light function.

The blue 5W side light bulbs in the vRS headlight cluster aren't wired up so they'll never work. The bulb is there as the same headlight is used on other Octavia models so it avoids listing two part numbers etc.

So FL owners should have lots of spare sidelight bulbs to give away to their not so well off pre-FL colleagues then? ;)
